With 6-2 records, Wayne Sash, ASDF, and myself are the champions of the Wildcard Weekend Pool. All picks are against the spread. Home teams are in caps. In addition to picking the team that beats the spread, you must pick whether the point total will go "over" or "under" the designated number. Here are my selections:
Seahawks +8 over PACKERS, under 41.5
PATRIOTS -13 Jaguars, over 49
COLTS -8.5 over Chargers, under 46.5
Giants +7.5 over COWBOYS, over 47

I never bother w/ the pool but I have to say I think the Jags are beating the Pats this weekend. They will run it down their throats and keep Brady on the sidelines.
That is my ignorant prediction and what will motivate me to watch at all.

The Jaguars are without question the NFL's most overrated team. They have a horrible secondary that the Pats will take advantage of to get up early, thus forcing the Jags to pass the ball in order to get back in the game. With about six minutes left in the Steelers game last week, the Jags switched to a pass-based offense. If you watched that game, you know how horrible their O looks when it tries to pass.
Easy win for the Pats against a team that is nowhere near as good as its reputation.
Ben, the Jags played in a much stronger conference than the Pats and if they hadn't pulled their starters in their last game would have won 12. Who is overrating them? I read an article yesterday that mentions they didn't even get any pro bowlers. That certainly indicates their peers and the fans don't think highly of them.
What I am calling is that they will keep Brady on the sidelines enough to not allow the Pats to force them into a throwing game. Of course I have no clue that that will happen but taking a stand like that is the only way I can get myself at all interested to watch these games.
Maybe Pete Carroll will take the Falcons job and my interest in pro football can be raised mildly.

Bruce,
I think 'Ron Paul' mania is making you crazy.
Certainly, as some Patriots games have shown this season, there is always a chance that any professional team can beat any other professional team on.......”any given Sunday”.
But this is a Saturday game ;-) and outside of Indianapolis, the Jags have not faced a team like the Patriots this season.
Don’t like to play the comparison game usually, especially because of how certain teams may or may not match up with others, but the Pats beat the Steelers by 21 points this season. And the score didn’t reflect the smack down the Pats put on them.
Anything can happen, but I got my $$$$$ on the Pats.

I'm sorry. On FlynnFiles this sort of statement is not allowed. A game is always as competitive as the final score indicates.
That said, I think the Jags are going to get beat down on Saturday.

If T.O. does not play, I'll be worried about this game. If he does play (and is relatively healthy), the Giants are going to get thrashed. Other than Owens, the whole team (including Glenn) is completely healthy for the first time all season.
Bruce, the media is head over heels in love with the Jags, and loves to talk about the fact that they didn't get any pro bowlers as proof of how snubbed they are. In reality, outside of Fred Taylor, there just aren't any pro bowl worthy players on their team.
The Jaguars played the Colts twice, who are the poor man's version of the Patriots. Twice, they lost. "Keep Brady on the sideline" is not a strategy. The Pats defense is very good at isolating one half of an opposing offense and forcing their opponents to beat them with the other. New England will not let Jacksonville run on Saturday. Even if they do run, you can't keep Brady from touching the ball forever, and the Jaguars have, as I said, a truly terrible secondary.
O.K. I'm feeling good. Reports said T.O. looked good in practice today, and he told Deion tonight on NFL Network that he was playing, felt great, and would perform at a high level. Add that to the fact that Jerry Jones said that Glenn was healthy today, and he expected him to light up the Giants defense. That moves a very capable Crayton to the third receiver spot. And did I mention we have a 1st Team All Pro tight end. If I were the Giants back seven, I would be very afraid.
I think that that Manuwai kid should have been a pro-bowler for the Jags, he has had a fantastic year and is a key to the Jags run offense.
I am not putting money on the game b/c I am not stupid but I am just calling it out now (I promise I won't say I told you so Sunday). The Pats close games were all ones in which the opposing team had a good game running, which is of course a strong suit for the Jags. Clearly they will have to play a flawless game to win but I like their chances enough to stand by it happening.
Ben, talking of their schedule doesn't say much. They would have only lost 4 games if they had played their starters against Houston. That means that half of their losses would have been against the Colts, who only just barely beat them in Indy 28-25 on 12/2. 6 of the Pats wins were against the Bills, Dolphins, and Jets. So if we are just trying to weight their schedules you can't draw the conclusion that the teams are so lopsided in achievement that the Jags don't have a prayer.
Also, the Jags have looked stronger down the stretch of the season and the Pats have struggled more in the same period. So I am banking on big mo and their offensive line to git er done Saturday. Of course it would be a helluva upset, but I need something to root for as all the teams I follow suck these days.
From today's Cowboys blog on the Dallas Morning News Website:
Let's just put it this way: Neither Terrell Owens nor the Cowboys exhibited much caution at all during the portion of practice open to the media.
The workout was outdoors, and held in sweats. As Barry posted a minute ago, Owens came out late for practice, just as we were coming on to the fields, with associate athletic trainer Britt Brown at his side. After getting some early work in during passing lines, Owens retreated to the sideline, took off his shoe, and had the tape job around his left ankle sliced off.
Owens then jogged around the stretching lines high-fiving all his teammates. And in early group work, the Cowboys were tossing fade routes up to Owens, requiring the receiver to go up for the ball. He worked with the first group most of the time, and kept close to Brown when on the sideline. Also, the limp he showed on Thursday was, for the most part, gone today.
Bottom line: It's pretty much like nothing's wrong with Owens.
Sure you don't want to change that pick, Dan?

Take heart Ralph, Dallas teams are pretty damn good in the regular season.
Sorry to break it to you Ralph but the Cowboys s#ck. You have to go back and remember some of the ridiculous stuff you said about comparing the cowboys to the pats, or their offense to the pats or TO to Moss, not even close. The cowboys offense one of the best ever? Start eating crow a lot of it?
P.S. you will have to do the same with the Celts and the Mavs. APPOLIGIZE!
"I'm sorry. On FlynnFiles this sort of statement is not allowed. A game is always as competitive as the final score indicates." - Ralph
Yep. You were certainly right about that Raphy. Our team won by 11 and how did your Boyz do? At home, against an opponent they should have handled?
You've been talking smack about the Pats all season but you know what Ralph, there's a big difference between confidence and arrogant cockiness and that would be the difference between the former and the latter.
As a fan, I pulled for the Boyz yesterday but it always seemed that they just expected to win without any thoughts of losing. Just because they were the #1 seed 13-3 Cowboys.
Kept hearing about T.O. (whiner) and the amazing T.G. Hmmmmm.
Talking and doing are two different things.
First the Mavs. Now the Boys. I quit.
Is Jerry Jones a tool or what? When the going gets tough, he's always down on the field cheerleading. He thinks that because he can press his will in business, he can do the same with his professional football team. I would expect he's more of a distraction for his team than an asset.
The problem with the Cowboys is that they have no leader on the field. They are all too young, nobody on the team is truly battle tested, except maybe TO and he is no leader of men.
Give them a few years and they will win a Super Bowl.
