What's wrong with Rudy McRomney? Pictures answer the question better than my words could. Here's Mitt Romney at a Planned Parenthood fundraiser. Here's Rudy Giuliani, flanked by several of the usual suspects, speaking at a Handgun Control press conference. Here's John McCain touting the de rigueur anti-corporate, anti-free-market conspiracy theory. Put the three together, add some of Mike Huckabee's "compassionate conservatism," and you almost get Hillary Clinton.
So, among the likely front runners, clue me in on who among them are perfect?
Romney certainly isn't but from what I know about him and the others, he is the least flawed.
Mitt Romney raised $6.5 million for his presidential exploratory committee yesterday.
Romney allowed judges to usurp the legislative function under his watch and did next to nothing to stop gay marriage. He instituted a form of socialized medicine for the Bay State. He signed into law tax-funded abortions. He didn't cut taxes. He raised fees. He hired illegals for his own projects and supported amnesty prior to running for president. He supported gun control. He's moved right, and I guess we should be happy he didn't move left. But his track record is far more liberal than any Republican nominee in recent memory.
So basically, whoever wins, we lose. Great.
So you wouldn’t agree that he had little executive control to stop the freight train that was Gay marriage based on the fact that he had a legislature that was 95% Democrat? An initiative that was destined to be and in fact has been pushed through by our way left political monarchy?
Yes, he did allow an increase in fees to feed the ever hungry Massachusetts machine. But, he did not allow taxes to be raised. I would agree that he should have held the line on fees but fees are the lesser of the evils. At least you get something for a fee and the cost is not spread among the population as a whole for services un-used.
And plueeeaase. He didn’t hire illegals to work on home projects. But apparently legitimate contractors that he hired did. As he said in one of the debates with Rudy, should he be asking every individual who works on his house for id? How about a green card? More importantly, he took a stand on sanctuary cities and towns and he empowered state police to detain and process illegals.
With regard to the Second amendment, he is pro. He did support the Brady bill and I’m not sure what’s so wrong with having to wait five days for a background check before you get a gun. Call me crazy. Assault rifles? Unless you’re fighting al-qaeda, who needs one?
To his credit, he mounted a drive to get more Republicans into the legislature to at least give him some veto leverage. But to no avail.
Still mad at Hillary, I see.
Ralph,
I don't think the GOP has any hope of winning anything this election cycle anyway. Just look at voter turnout for the Dem primaries compared to the GOP ones All the signs point out that the Reagan Democrats are all gone and the GOP base is exceedingly small. None of these candidates (save ron Paul) would have any chance of attracting any of the independent vote or getting Dems to cross over, and w/ the GOP base so small and decimated I don't see how the party stands a chance.
The Dems are going to have control of the entire govt after this election.
