Three weeks ago I sensed another Harriet Miers moment coming on. A Harriet Miers moment is that I'm-mad-as-hell-and-I'm-not-gonna-take-it feeling, when conservatives yell out the window so loud that every one in Washington hears them. This phenomenon quashed the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court and now it has defeated President Bush's proposed liberalization of immigration law. The bill providing amnesty to illegal aliens outraged so many conservatives so deeply (and quite a few Americans who aren't conservatives) that this sure-thing has been derailed. Wouldn't it have been nice if conservatives had Harriet Miers moments on the prescription-drug plan, No Child Left Behind, Iraqi nation-building, McCain-Feingold restrictions on free speech, nationalization of airport security, and a hundred other missteps by this administration? Better late than never, I guess.
I agree that there have been many other issues that were high profile and could have been thwarted by voters. But, the difference with those issues and this immigration abomination was truly one of national survival. It's good to know that people do pay attention and that when the grassroots are threatened with a government action that would put us as a society and nation at risk, things happen.
With regards to Harriet Miers, prescription-drug plan, No Child Left Behind, Iraqi nation-building, McCain-Feingold restrictions on free speech, nationalization of airport security, etc., those issues are small potatoes in comparison to the harm that open borders and unbridled illegal immigration and what over generous government largesse granted to illegals would do to this country.
Ditto asdf. Nothing is more important than the sovereignty of the U.S. . And no issue touches all areas of our society in a negative way than illegal immigration. I have no respect for people that don't understand that. This bill is dead thank God; right along with John McCain's campaign.
Even us knuckleheads EVENTUALLY wake up!
Way I look at it Billiam is that you can't fight all of the battles, just the most important ones.

Is Bush insane or just a stubborn a-hole from Texas?!!!! I think a little of both.
This horses a$$ comes back from wowing them in Albania and decides to immiediately hook up with Dirty Harry Reid, right after he's finished trashing Bush's Attorney General or course, to see how they'll get this illegal immigration horror back on track.
THIS GUY SUCKS!!!!!
When I say that John Kerry (gulp) would have been a better choice it says a lot about BDS is spreading.
Heard Nancy Pelosi yesterday talking about how people don't understand the immigration bill and that those who don't agree with it are racists. Is she kidding? Just goes to show how stupid she and some others think we are.
It becomes ever more clear that these people can't be trusted and it seems that a byproduct of this push to naturalize illegals is a way for our elite ruling class of politicos to replace their current bosses who are well educated and informed taxpayers with new bosses who are uneducated indifferent dependents. It's probably why this has become a bipartisan issue.
