One to Talk

George W. Bush's blunder in Iraq is certainly one of the worst foreign policy disasters in the history of the United States. Does that make him the worst president ever? I doubt it, but time will provide a more enlightened perspective. I applaud his tax cuts and judicial appointments, but those aren't the type of measures that enthuse historians. And historians, plus bloggers, the occupiers of bar stools, etc. are the types of people, traditionally, who engage in debates over past presidents. Presidents themselves don't, unless named Jimmy Carter. The 39th president's remark that the Bush presidency is "the worst in history" is one that leaves me with two competing thoughts: "consider the source" and "takes one to know one." The former lets Bush of the hook, the latter puts him on it. Neither questions the calamity that was the Carter presidency.

Libs are rather pathetic (as if that needs to be pointed out) b/c the qualities that make them declare certain presidents "great" are basically qualities that Bush has, and his actions are quite similar to the other "great" presidents. Pick any of the standard historians beloved presidents and compare them to Bush and he is strikingly similar to them.

FDR . . . expansion of welfare/the state/foreign interventionism in the name of democracy, etc. How is Bush not very similar in action and even successes to FDR? Or Lincoln, or TR?

Our intelligentsia and liberal ruling class adore Caesars, as long as he isn't cloaked in the toga of the Republican Pary.

Great observation.

Makes sense when looked at that way. Ditto to what Dan said. Hey Dan! When's the book due?!

Wait, are you suggesting that Libs/Dems are partisan? No way!

Long live Lincoln! Wait... he's dead.

All praise Lincoln!

As for Bush, were it not for Roberts, Alito and the slew of conservative judges he put on the federal bench, there would be no lasting good to come from his presidency (the tax-cuts will be gone next year). Weighed against each other, are the judges heavier than the casualties of war? If Stevens is replaced by another conservative, and if Roe is overturned, then my answer is "Yes." Time will tell.

Billiam, the book will come out in one year.
