Homeland Insecurity

After 9/11, national leaders urged the public to fly, engage in commerce, go to sporting events. Not going on with your regular life, we were informed, would be allowing the terrorists to succeed. If someone's refusal to fly represents a small victory for terrorism, where does postponing national elections rank?

There are whispers that the Department of Homeland Security has created a contingency plan to postpone November's elections in case of terrorism. I hope this isn't true. Aside from the numerous stupid conspiracy theories delaying the elections would launch on the Left, postponing the vote would be a massive show of weakness in the face of terrorism. It would stand as a black mark in U.S. history. If terrorism occurs on or before November 2, Homeland Security should have a back-up plan to ensure elections take place, not a plan to postpone them.

America managed to hold elections in the midst of a civil war. Ditto for World War II. Why should our current situation call for anything this drastic?

Living in a free society will always have an inherent risk. As a parent, the only way to totally shield my children from harm for 18 years would be to put them in a bubble and never let them leave the home. Sure, they will be protected, but how free will they be?
I am willing to accept certain risks to live in the United States. I do not like the idea of the government chipping away at my freedoms in order to protect me. This would be doing what the terrorists want-taking away the freedom we enjoy, but they despise.
I refuse to let the terrorists make me live in fear. Oh, they can do horrendous things to try to make my life miserable, but the CHOICE to be afraid is mine-that is MY power. They can do anything they want, but THIS power is mine, and that they will never take away from me.
Dan, you are most right. The far left will present consiracy theories is the election is postponed. Nothing should interfere with our basic American freedom, our elections. Take steps to make sure the elections occur no matter what. And those of you who read these blogs, yet refuse to vote for one reason or another should hang your heads in shame. Many people died for your right to vote. Voting isn't just a right, it is part of your duty as a citizen.

Be well,

Yeah, seriously, what happened? I thought we were the American "REBELS"??? We're all behaving like a bunch of pussies, man. The only reason they even bother to threaten us this way is because at the SLIGHTEST hint of danger we all go to pieces and quiver uncontrollably. The men of this country need to take back masculinity from the lesbians and start acting like MEN again!

DON'T POSTPONE THE ELECTION! I'm not afraid of these guys, go ahead and kill me. I'm wearing my "F*ck Mohammed" (written in arabic) shirt to the polls, baby.

Department of Homeland Security? What happens if another successful terrorist attack is launched on our soil? Department of Homeland Security II??

I always thought that if our Government was really doing its job, the FBI and CIA were supposed to be protecting us and taking care of ‘Homeland Security’, no?

Even after the lessons of 9/11, our government agencies are still incompetent and playing political patty-cake, our borders and immigration policies still allow a constant flow of uncontrolled alien entry and departure to and from this country and our pandering, politically correct legislators and public officials are afraid to take hard stands on anything in lieu of losing votes.

Scary and dangerous situation my friends.

Cynical, moi?
