Something's Brewing

The FBI arrested a 19-year-old Jordanian man yesterday after he placed a car full of dummy explosives that he mistakenly believed would blow up the sixty-story Fountain Place in Dallas. In Illinois, a 29-year-old convert to Islam (courtesy of the prison system!) was arrested after activating a cell phone that he thought would trigger a van full of explosives to destroy a federal building in Springfield. The two arrests follow the appearance in a Denver court by Najibullah Zazi, allegedly an al Qaeda operative, for lying about a bomb plot. In addition to purchasing large quantities of bomb-making materials, Zazi is alleged to have received al Qaeda training, have bombmaking instructions on his computer, and have cooked up explosive material in a Colorado hotel. One is reminded that at the same point into George W. Bush's term terrorists struck America. Could they be similarly testing President Obama? The government doesn't seem as keen on issuing its color-coded warning as it did in the aftermath of 9/11, but if they did this activity would seem the stuff of orange alerts.

That just doesn't seem fair or in the spirit of today's political correctness to mention that the perp is a convert to The Religion of Peace.

An Islamist with murderous terrorist intentions? Say it ain't so!

I'll be surprised if Obama's Justice department doesn't prosecute the investigators and arresting officers for profiling.

I will say what no one else wants to admit. The Bush administration knew how to use fear against us better than the terrorists.

Those alerts were often used at key moments.

Be well,

So maintaining a structure that insulates citizens from those who would choose to shatter our illusion of safety is using fear against us? Oh. Ok.

Maybe the reason that nobody else wants to 'admit' it is because they don't think it's true.

It's interesting to me how quickly everyone has fogotten what happened on 9/11/01. The beauty is that we have systems in place that us allow many to do so.

Posted by: asdf on September 25, 2009 09:10 AM

Asdf, I have not forgotten. But I choose to not be fearful. Fear was their weapon, and against me, they were impotent.

Was it not revealed that before the election of 2004 the terror level was elevated, or is that just a media rumor.

There is nothing wrong with protecting us from terror. BUT, some of the things the Bush administration did, while protecting us from ATTACK, actually caused more fear. Just my opinion.

Be well,

Sponge

No offense Sponge, but I think it is YOUR opinion. I don't get the impression at all that people are fearful because their government is somehow elevating the level.

My impression, and I could be wrong, is that our government has been diligent to protect AND to inform us that the bad guys are still out there and that we all need to be ever vigilant.

Posted by: asdf on September 25, 2009 10:07 AM

I've thought about this as well and two things worry me
1.The thought of any terrorist attack especially one of comparable size to 9/11 sickens me.

2.I'm not sure that our hollowed out republic can survive a terrorist attack of 9/11's size. I didn't like Bush but he wasn't the level of egomaniac that obama seems to be. There is no doubt in my mind that he would use a crises to solidify is power hold.

Regardless, I'm going to do what I always do when I have these delimas-I'll just hope that it is nothing more then my own delusional mind at work.
