9/11@6

Six years gone, but 9/11 is still fresh and painful. Three years ago, I read the 9/11 commission's report, and reported back to FlynnFiles readers what stood out. Here's Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4. Share any 9/11 related comments in the thread.

i think 9/11 for the left/dems. is forgotten. they believe little greedy corp. dogs died in the attack. and that G.W is hitler and the real terrorist.

I think the saddest thing about the 9-11 aniversary is that it highlights the utter lack of statesmanship in the US.

The Left is wacky, of course, but the fact is that we have wasted our time fulfilling the pre-9-11 wishes of an anti-Saddam faction and instituting even more ineffectual bureacracy and statist BS (something the liberals in both parties are happy to go along with).

What true statesmen would have done is outline reasonable reasponse to the aggressors (Afghanistan, perp hunt) and a prudential way to minimize risk in the future without disrupting American liberty (say, immigration restrictions on Muslim men).

In any case, nation-building in Iraq and national ID cards are not proper responses.

Worse part of this waste is that six years after the horrendous event, we still have pourous borders where anybody with an agenda to attack us again would be free to do so.

Unfortunately, until we have our next major attack (and maybe that won't matter), a majority of the pandering, do nothing, political weasels that run our country and who are more interested in cheap labor and free trade keep their fingers crossed, still not serious and unwilling to protect us.

Is that cynical?

The real tragedy is that we haven't used our nukes to kill these bastards. We should have nuked Afghanistan on 11/12/01.

Know what General, something that drastic would certainly get everybody's attention and cut through the bull$hit. Worked with Japan.

asdf,

Your first comment wasn't cynical but agreeing w/ the good General is.

But Uberfrau is speaking wisely here I believe. If everyone who considers himself a right-winger of w/e stripe would just step back on a day like today for a moment. Just step back from the hysteria du jour of a Bill O'Reilly or Bush WH over Ahmadenijad and the supposed "impending" development of Iranian nukes and the supposedly obvious scenario that they would give them immediately to Al Qaeda or bomb Israel. Just put that way to the side for a moment.

We are now 6 years out from 9/11 and these are a few of my questions:

1) Are our airports and ports and borders even moderately more secure than prior to the attack?

2) Have we actually given just retribution to the perpetrators?

3) Is the Middle East in any regard more tolerant of us and pacified? That is, are there more or less "swamps" breeding terrorism?

4) Has our military and monetary resources (of utmost import is our soldier's blood) been expended wisely in our national defense?

I don't think anyone can really answer these questions in a positive manner so couple this w/ the following facts:

1) "The Decider" has categorically stated that he simply does not care where Osama is.

2) Almost our entire political and media elite spent the last two years trying w/ all their might to force an even greater loss of sovereignty and security on us w/ even more porous borders.

3) The WH has actually gone after airlines for showing concern for their passengers safety in discriminating against Muslims. That is, the reign of PC is all encompassing for our ruling elites.

4) We have actually spent much more time fighting in Iraq than we did against the military might of Hitler and Tojo yet have far less to show for our efforts.

And now ask yourself . . . How can our ruling class possibly be trusted upon its current course and w/ its current ideas and leaders to actually handle the supposed crisis of a nuclear armed Iran in (as the most liberal claim goes) five years? Seriously, look at what our government has accomplished in six years as regards responding to the actual attack of 9/11 and ask how can it possibly, as currently led, achieve what it claims is needful in the next five?

And finally, after these anniversary of 9/11 reflections I ask that you just try and give Ron Paul a hearing. He is the only candidate of either party actually trying to suggest an alternative means of addressing our security issues. Let's drop the echo chamber and really explore all options available to achieve an effective foreign policy and actually promote our national security. He is the only candidate trying to have a real grown-up conversation about the situation we are in 6 years after 9/11.

Stop Dreaming

I'm not agreeing with the General based on an over reaction or out of anger for what happened on 9/11. We have superior weaponry and if we were serious and deliberate about keeping this country safe and secure we could use it, in much the same way that Truman did, to save American lives now and in the future and to make a statement to the World that you don't F'k with the U.S.

Alas, most of our elites lack the gonads to take a serious stand and I doubt that (as said) even if we were attacked again, it would make any difference. Also, the World has changed and we'd need to deal with governments who have similar weaponry. But when you consider that we are still the World's lone superpower, we could probably get away with it.

Still, I can dream, can't I?
