The Patriots and Giants square off in Super Bowl 42 (enough with the Roman numerals) in a rematch of one of the most entertaining games of the year. The NFL almost certainly would have preferred the Green Bay Packers playing in the big game--despite its David v. Goliath small-market status vis a vis New York--but the Giants outplayed the Pack. The early line opened at 14, with early money trending toward the Giants. The wildcard Giants certainly took the road less traveled, defeating Tampa, Dallas, and Green Bay on the road. Winning in sub-zero temperatures at Lambeau Field is certainly an accomplishment. Ironically, it's that Giants-Patriots game from week seventeen, in which Tom Coughlin counterintuitively played his banged-up starters, that propelled the Giants to playoff victories. By playing New England so close then, the Giants have the confidence that they can hang with the undefeated Patriots now. Are you ready for the Super Bowl? Too bad. It doesn't happen for another 13 days, 18 hours, 49 minutes, and 53 seconds from now. Good luck with your withdrawals, NFL junkies.

My two favorite teams are in the Super Bowl. The first an undefeated juggernaut, the second a plucky, come from behind underdog. Pretty much the best NFL season ever.

As I've said, I didn't want to have to hear about Brett Favre for two solid weeks 24 hours a day as the sporting press seems to be fascinated with the guy. So I was pulling for the Giants.
But as I watched the game, my Favre fever aside, I started thinking about who the Patriots could beat more easily. The answer I came to was neither. I thing both teams looked good and played a lot tougher than expected in an unfriendly environment.
Here's hoping that the Pats play a better Super Bowl against a more formidable opponent than they played to get there.
I really don't know which team I'd like to see win. Just like the general election will probably be, I must choose from the lesser of 2 evils.
Well, the clear choice for any thinking sports fan would be to want the Patriots to win.
Yeah, any clear thinking sports fan from the New England area.
Are there any other kind?
The Pats will take another close one as the New York Football Giants will prove to be a formidable foe once again. The NFC is a much better conference this year and the Giants are definitely playing their best ball of the season. The Pats are a team that consistently is doing what it has to do to win.
Every week multiple players step up when a play is needed to win. They have their superstars but they are totally sold out to the team concept as taught to them by Bill Belichek. PATS 31 - GIANTS 27.
No way I'm picking Eli Manning and the Giants over Tom Brady and the Patriots. Sure, they played New England tough in Week 17, but this is for all the marbles, and the battle-tested Patriots always rise to the challenge. The march to immortality will be complete on Super Bowl Sunday. New England, 34-20.
I like that score a lot. Do not want to see this become a close one and here's hoping that Eli reverts back to his fumbling, bad passing ways.
Pats have experience and the ultimate motivation on their side. And, unlike the first meeting between these two, the Pats have all of their Offensive linemen healthy. In particular Neal and to a lesser extent Kaczur.
I never thought I'd say this, but I'm with Hitler:
