Immigration Bill Dead

The "Jason," the "Freddy Krueger," the "Michael Myers" of bills is finally dead. Senate backers of the legislation to reward law-breaking immigrants with citizenship (and to make suckers out of law-abiding immigrants) failed to muster sixty votes in the Senate to invoke cloture. Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, noting the public's disgust with the bill and Congress's repeated attempts to revive it, quipped: "What part of 'no' don’t we understand?" Like Jason, Freddy, and hockey-masked Mike, amnesty proponents don't understand defeat. Like the Terminator, they'll be back. But, until the sequel at least, they're toast.

I'd say the Bush presidency is officially over.

By the way, has anyone noticed what's been happening on the Court? In 5 straight decisions, Kennedy has sided with the conservatives on the Court. I heard an commentator on NPR yesterday suggest that Kennedy has fallen under the influence of Roberts (he likes him, finds him persuasive, etc.). If that's true, and it's a lasting influence, the Court could be handing down some good decisions for a very long time.

I hope so. He has turned out to be a relatively incompetent President and a major embarrassment to his Party and to the people he is supposed to be serving. After GW, hopefully people will wake up and it will be the last time a country club conservative holds high office.

And, yes, it's nice to see the SC righteously uphold an important decision. Loved Roberts' comment:

"The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race".

Beeeautiful!

I thought Jason was the one wearing the hockey mask.

Yes it's dead. Long live the "Fair"ness Doctrine.

No victory comes without a price and the price for this one will be the congressional losers going after conservative news outlets in general and talk radio in particular.

I think it will be more of an exercise in futility for them. After all, we may have 'talk radio' and Fox but the dark side has CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, AP, NPR, PBS, Reuters and scores of mainstream rags to push their agenda. Also consider the two government sponsored liberal outlets NPR and PBS which most don't listen to but are forced to support through mandatory monetary confiscation.

Boy, was I wrong. In fact, I'll admit that I've been wrong about most everything I post here. Have to admit, you Conservatives have got it going on!
