Red? Blue? Or In Between?

The Pew Research Center for the Policy and the Press has a new political typology survey called Beyond Red vs. Blue. After seeing it linked on MichelleMalkin.com, I took the survey and discovered that I, like Malkin, am an Enterpriser. Enterpriser--I like the sound of it. Take the survey and tell the readership how the survey classified you.

Take II. The survey is just too coarse-grained in my view.

You did notice that the questions talked about "newcomers" and "immigrants" didn't you? Thus to find their questions current, you have to basically say that "immigrants, legal or illegal" are a drain on the economy. Therefore, they are likely to paint xenophobic those people who think that this is the pressing question of weak borders, instead of new faces. I don't know--but I don't think that that question captures the dynamic of any major group out there.

Also, the survey just has too many places for the "I think I should run everybody's lives" type. I could not answer the one on books in school. I think some books can be banned with due process. Now ITISREL also applies to people at the federal level that need to decide what principles every neighborhood should comply with. In 10-of-25 questions, I put no answer. In about 5-6 others, I held my nose and agreed with one side or another.

I think I flunked.

I have taken 2 online political test already. The libertarian poll says I am a conservative libertarian. the-zoo.blogspot.com, who rates blogs, said I am just right of center and just slightly authoritarian. I don't want anymore labels. ;)

Disaffected.

I came up Enterpriser, but I agree with Sea King- the survey seems too limited for much of an accurate measurement.

I am an Enterpriser.

Another good political test is based off how you answer moral questions. It can be found here:

http://www.moral-politics.com/xpolitics.aspx?menu=Home&action=Test&choice=Long

The Moral Politics Test placed me as a member of the Republican party with Economic System being Capitalism and Moral Ideology being Conservative NeoLiberalism. My views correllated 98.75 percent with those of Ronald Reagan, according to the test.

I am an Enterpriser as well.

Disaffected

Hahahahha! I am so pleased with this rating. Christopher J. Doyle, what did you get?

Posted by: polemical muhammad ali on May 12, 2005 01:12 AM

Disaffect3ed. Which is absolutely the case, except that their description of what it means to be a "disaffected" American doesn't describe me at all, that actually cracked me up. But I have no problem with that label as long as it is taken to mean "Jacobite."

I was Social Conservative. There werent enough questions about already lax immigration laws or immigration reform.

Posted by: James on May 12, 2005 12:16 PM

I was more of a Deep Space Niner myself.

Posted by: Nightfly on May 12, 2005 01:53 PM

disaffected!!

I agree with Brian, the discription doesn't match me at all. Supposedly I hate my life, live in the country, and think that people have no control over their own destiny. But non-the-less I am a DISAFFECTED UNDERACHIEVER and proud of it!

I redid the test with the same answers but didn't fill in the ideology and partisan affiliations at the end this time. At first I was a "Social Conservative," which they also called a "moralist." Now they called me a "conservative democrat," which they go to pains to say is not moralistic, as are their republican counterparts-- even though the con dems agree with the social conservatives on moral issues.

Liberal jackasses.

I guess you can beam me up, Flynny.

I have to say, though I think short is implying it, that this test is pretty lousy and makes a number of popular assumptions that many of us would take issue with. I was actually an "Enterpriser" when I took the test. And I have to say, that any political test where I get a score equal to that of the 300lb-benching, non-nerd that runs this site, is a crock. That's not to say that I don't often agree with the strapping Mr. Flynn...it's just that I would, as a nerd and a believer in unions and other workforce protections, expect to score differently. (Please forgive my reference to an earlier post, and resist the urge to kick sand in my face)

That is hilarious Short, that party affiliation actually affected it that much. I keep taking these stupid quizzes (like which Disney character are you?) and I really have to stop, they are as pointless in their generalizations and vague or leading questioning as horoscopes.

lol, sorry that was me just above not Twain.

Enterpriser, but I think I went soft on a couple of the religious and environment answers.
So, can I require this test as part of the interview process for candidates I am considering hiring? hmmmmm...

Posted by: The Distributist on May 13, 2005 09:13 AM

I am an Enterpriser but you can also throw in a touch of Debaser!!!....DEBASER!!!

Posted by: Feck on May 13, 2005 11:26 AM

Good call, Feck. Everyone could use a touch of "Debaser" every once in a while. Throw in some "Monkey Gone To Heaven" too.
