If you still had some lingering doubts whether the documents in Rathergate were really forgeries, then read this article in the Washington Post. At least the New Republic eventually stopped believing Stephen Glass. CBS seems content to live in its own fictional universe, pretending that the documents used for its report are as real as the Hope Diamond. Dan Rather lashed out at "partisan political operatives" and the "counterattack" against CBS. He's too busy battling strawmen and changing the subject to address the very real questions raised about the dubious memos. If CBS seems to be stonewalling like a political outfit, maybe it's because that's what they are--a political outfit.
Ignorant fool.
Hey, what's proof to these guys? Doesn't matter that they could not or would not believe that they were authentic. It just felt right that they were.
Conservatives think and deal in facts; Liberals 'feel' and deal in only what they believe to be real.
The leftries like CBS news and Michael Moore are really annoying and frustrating in that as this site demonstrates many people are legitimately unhappy with Bush. Many conservatives thought the Iraq War was folly. I would like Bush to at least sweat out this election cycle, and although it is still a long way off and it will probably get much tighter, the bumbling of Bush's raving enemies seems to be insuring him a great victory.
If he squeaks a win out by his teeth I had at least hoped that maybe we would see some things like a Colin Powell resignation, a dumping of the treasonous neocons in the Pentagon, etc.
Despite what Moore and the liberal elite thinks the American people as a whole are not dupes and suckers and they can see the blatant shenanigans of the likes of CBS and be influenced accordingly into a more reasonable tolerance of Bush. Who wouldn't have sympathy for someone who is being treated so underhandedly by the "free press"?
Good one by Kerry today. He’s on Imus, and is asked about the War which (as of this morning) he supports. When Imus asks him how he could support the War but not vote to appropriate funds for it, he starts in saying that he did vote to fund it after the War started. (????)
Then, he says that Bush sent those boys into battle without the proper equipment based on lack of funding and, get this, people back home here had to have bake sales and auctions to raise money to equip the troops.
He is rapidly loosing it.
Kerry is really chumping out. He's playing right into Bush's hands.
Elections are like horse races - Horse GB is looking stronger and stronger in the home stretch - thank God! Things are looking better and better for this great land of ours.
Interesting to note. Remember on Drudge when it had reported Kerry as the winner (by a huge margin) of the "World Poll"? Well, another question asked about their thoughts on America's strength in the world. An overwhelming amount of people said they would want America to be WEAKER. I agree, "vote for Kerry for a weaker America." - finally, the others around the world are correct about something.
Rob, that poll of world opinion was one of the dumbest things the liberal media ever reported. (but not the dumbest, of course) If one lesson should be obvious from the Iraq War, it is that no people wants it's goverment dictated to by outsiders. The Americans are no different than Iraqis in that reguard.
If I lived in Iraq I would assume my living conditions would be pretty poor, and I'm not talking about poor in the sense of lacking flat screen tv's and microwaves. Something has to change. Either A) I move or B) let's get some organization here folks. I certainly would not want outsiders to "run" the place forever, but it's pretty obvious that they need help to get the ball rolling. Now, I don't think the American military are the ones to do this, they are for making war - warriors.
The world poll is silly. But other than the Iraq government, what other government is being dictated to by the U.S.? Actually, some would argue that the U.S. government is being dictated to by the Israeli government.
Only 8% of Iraqi's say life is worse post U.S. invasion. Point being - it's easy for those sitting on the sidewalks of Paris sipping Latte's not to want the U.S. to be strong, but ask those that were sipping on their own urine and you have a different answer.
I can't stress enough how wrong this "Mike Boyle" is on nearly every issue. Now progressives and conservatives can disagree, but we're all human. Demonizing the angry "liberals" who "feel and deal only in what they believe to be real" is conterproductive and makes good, respectable conservatives look bad. No one can honestly take this stuff seriously. Mr. Boyle is just taking the most contemptable features of human nature and assigning them to those he disagrees with. This is not a serious rebuke of progressive ideas or policies. It's nothing but a slander, the calliber of which a Hannity would admire.
And Boyle of course Kerry voting against the iraq spending bill is a contradiction. Sometimes politicans have to do things for political reasons, and not what they believe. Everyone knows that Kerry voted against the spending bill because it came before congress during the Democratic primaries, and voting against the bill was popular amongst democratic primary voters. When looked at it in this way the VOTE MAKES SENSE! But of course Kerry could never explain his vote in these terms because it comes off as cynical and political.
Critisze Kerry all you want for making a stupid politcal vote. But don't say that his vote against the spending bill is a "filp-flop". It wasn't. it was a calculated political move which helped him get the nomination.
Nathan, how can possibly compare a global poll that shows that the world population favors Kerry's election and the American occupation of Iraq? In Iraq the American government installed thier prime minister. This poll is not binding. The people of the world do not have armies stationed in Washington, and DO NOT CHOOSE OUR LEADERS. We do choose Iraq's leaders. That is wrong. And so are you.
DB buddy, I agree with you. I am not a fan of the war because I could give a crap about the Iraqi people. Remember, we conservatives are "selfish" (not only in economic policy) but also in foreign policy - there is a consistency here, or at least used to be.
Here's the questions. Since when has the left abandoned its UN-style, global agenda of helping the world? I guess the answer is - when some "conservatives" abandoned the washingtonian/isolationaist foreign policy that it used to value.
I don't know if such a leftish view of the UN role was ever very prominant. The UN was created by the United States with the goal of maintaining US dominance in the world. The Security Council was packed with US Allies ( Britian, France, China (Taiwan at the time) ) and one US enemy, Russia. Although some humanitarian programs at the UN may have or still have the leftish bent you speak of, the political side of the UN has always been quite favorable to US intrests. Of the "liberal" American presidents, kennedy, Eisenhower, Truman, Carter, and Clinton, not one of them ever used the UN in such a "global agenda for helping the world". That agenda has been pushed most by the "conservative" Presidents, Bush the Elder and Bush the Younger. (Remember Bush I's idea of a "new world order")
Maybe not among politicians (as you noted politicians do things for political reason, Bush Sr. may have seemed too realpolitik and wanted a softer, fuzzier side internationally), but more so among the intellectual left (Hey Dan, there's a plug for your book!). I have several Hitchens articles that I am going to read tonight, but from my understanding he represents this traditional international view of the left, which the left seems to have forgotten.
When Bush Sr. spoke of N.W.O. (remember that wrestling team?) all hell broke loose among the conservative Republican base. I don't remember liberals criticizing Clinton when he went into Bosnia - and yes Republicans did. I'm not trying to play a "gotchya" game because there is hypocrisy on both sides. It's just fun to see who the reactionaries are now. And speaking of fun DB, don't forget the Apprentice is on tomorrow night. I will quiz you on Friday morning!
DB, I'm not in any way comparing that poll to the US occupation of Iraq. I'm saying that the basic gut impulse of sticking by one's own is the same. As in Uncle Earnie has a drinking problem, the family berates him in private but defends him in public sceanario. Bush may be a moron & the war in Iraq a huge mistake, be he's our moron so shut up your yaps you damn Frenchies. So it's foolish for the liberal media to promote that poll in Kerry's favor.
Likewise, it's borderline insane to think that the US is going to install a western style democracy in a few short years. Really, how one would goes from Saddam & Sons to a federal system of checks & balances is beyond me. And the longer we're over there "to get the ball rolling" the more it will seem like the US occupation is permenant and therefor unacceptable to the vast majority of Iraqis.
We must respect the office of the presidency and support the troops.
Yes that is an awesome argument Nathan. In a democratic nation, where we have the possibility of changing our leaders, you would rather stick with one who you admit is a "moron".
Nice Logic
It would be interesting to find out exactly what Kerry and his Campaign knew about the bogus documents.
Is it just coincidental that Kerry has flipped once again and gone in another campaign direction with a new staff including those Clintonistas Carville and Begala? Possible.
Or is it more likely that Kerry was not intimately involved but did have a preview of the proceedings and was rubbing his little hands together with excitement that the story would be a bombshell (which it was made out to be by the usual media suspects) and would not be scrutinized as untrue?
Remember: to these people, the public are a bunch of stupid saps. So, they thought the story would fly not matter what.
Facts? Faggetaboudem’. They work on hearsay and innuendo.
Much the way Kerry handles his explanations of his proposals.
We have to fix the economy, blah, blah, blah. We have to fix healthcare, blah, blah blah. How? You may ask. Don’t hold your breath waiting for an answer.
They're are answers. If your ears weren't so full of Bush's love juice maybe you could hear them.
This is a war that we can not win or overcome. No one gets out alive.
