McCain for the Rebuttal

On a night when a Democrat gave the most rising defense of Republicans, it's only fitting that a Republican would serve as most spirited defender of the Democrats.

John McCain's appearance with Tom Brokaw on NBC after Zell Miller's speech was a bit surreal. McCain objected to the vibe of Miller's speech that John Kerry isn't fit to be commander in chief. Fair enough; McCain has served in the Senate with Kerry for almost two decades. His second objection to Miller's speech came off as self serving, and well, untruthful. McCain stated that he rejected the notion that the Democrats were unpatriotic. Here are Miller's exact words about Kerry and the Democratic leadership: "It is not their patriotism—it is their judgment that has been so sorely lacking." McCain seemed to be reacting more to the speech he expected to hear than the one he did hear.

MCain is nuts. I don't understand why people don't see this. Remember the wild look in his eyes in 2000 when he said we'd launch nukes over Taiwan? Or him going into the death star like Luke Skywalker? Or whenever Vietnam is mentioned he zones out and repeats this zombie mantra of everyone and everything being honorable, patriotic, and above question? Time to jetison the escape pod on this guy.

I've always questioned McCain's direction and loyalties and have found that his comments on many issues to be confusing to say the least.

By my way of reasoning, I don’t think that he should be held up as a poster boy for the new more moderate Republican party and I wonder sometimes if he has his philosophies straight or if he has the best interests of the party in mind.

Like just about everybody else, we know little about him other than knowing that he spent years in a Viet Cong prison and was tortured and beaten for most of that time.

If he seems a bit nuts, this could be what did it.

I think the Party of Lincoln could stand to loose this guy. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him jump parties at some point in the future.

That's BS. McCain isn't moderate. He's just more independant than most Senators. He dosen't take his orders from the White house like the DeLays and Frists of the world. He places his responsibility to represent Arizona and the people of the United States over his responsibility to represent the Republican party. In short, he acts as the framers intended a Senator to act. That's why he is beloved by Democrats and Republicans alike. It's not his politics. Its his priorities.
