NBC is in the midst of a "green is universal" campaign, a 150-hour effort to politicize viewers into embracing a Hard Green view of global warming and other environmentalist scare stories. With Matt Lauer in the arctic, and other reporters at extreme weather locations, the network seeks to impart a message to viewers that the climate is changing due to normal human activity (driving, turning on a lightbulb, throwing a can in the garbage). This is a dubious proposition. It is not universally accepted, as the network's slogan implies. But if media conglomerates repeat it enough, it will become universally accepted--at least that's what they're hoping. Imagine the outrage if, instead of environmentalism, NBC chose to spend 150 hours indoctrinating its viewers into a pro-life or anti-gun control mindset. It's unthinkable, partly because one of the outcomes of such programming to program is the idea, tacitly accepted even by people who reject the Left, that it's not programming when it's a leftist pet cause that's being pushed. But it is.
The propaganda on these issues has already worked over a large amount of the public.
I run into people casually remarking on every Indian summer day, or "unseasonal" whatever as because of global warming. People's lack of desire for evidence for anything is typical. It also reflects our rather conservative social nature, and is why promoting good leaders and intellectuals is so critical. People are naturally deferent to perceived authority, thus we have to work to insure our authority figures are as virtuous and wise as possible.
I don't care what their political persuasions are, I'm pretty sure the viewers of Sunday Night Football would rather see scores and highlights than some guy standing next to an igloo talking about global warming.
Our planet has existed for millions of years and has always been in a perpetual state of environmental flux and we're supposed to believe that man and activities from the last 100 years is changing and destroying it? Ah, ya.
Loved SNF by candle light though. It was very “NFL”, wasn't it? But what would you expect from the network that highlights Keith Olbermann and hires Rosy O'Donnell?
Unspeakably boring and irritating halftime report.
Then again, unspeakably boring describes the game as well. Eagles got mauled.
More like unspeakably ridiculous. Even Bob Costas seemed to have the good sense to be embarassed.
It seems like pet issues and entertainment other than that related to the games are trumping these broadcasts.
This applies to the three stooges on MNF as well. Tedious man.
I was happy to be able to turn that game off last night and unless there is a great contest on either Sunday or Monday, there's very little incentive to watch.
This comes from a guy who can watch any two professional football teams play even if it's a weak contest.
I wont watch SNF,keith olbermann is the worst.
Olbermann had some crappy little show on MSNBC that nobody watched because he's a far left loon. But the moon bats who run NBC figured to give him some big face time by holding football fans hostage so that they could advance their agendas.
Don't think its working. Most people I know are getting turned off. Even liberals that I know who are football fans, strangely enough, want to watch football and get information about football when an NFL game is on the schedule.
Why is it that as one is blinded by lights from advertiser's signs outside of the studio and a day lit stadium full of people is the focus of the broadcast, is NBC expecting to dupe people into thinking that we would be better off, from an energy standpoint, to lower or extinguish our lights?
While the Chinese work in the Gulf of Mexico with the Cubans to explore and extract more oil from the planet so that they can light their country as we light ours, libs and environmentalists work to limit our ability to extract of our own natural resources and expect us to move back to the dark ages to limit our dependence on foreign energy sources.
Speaking of ridiculous, was anyone else aggravated that while introducing the 75 year all Steelers team the network has that dingbat sideline reporter speaking over the announcements? Then, to top it off they have the PTI meatheads spouting their blather. All while they are introducing the likes of Joe Greene and Terry Bradshaw in the background! I would have shut the tube down if the game was tied at 24. Football sacrilege and unbelieveable stupidity on the part of the network.
I agree, the Olberman thing during halftime is complete drivel.
Green is Retarded.
The network probably thinks that since Olbermann used to be a sports guy (ESPN and I think baseball game of the week) that he would have cred to do this junk.
They are wrong.
Costas and Olbermann are baseball guys doing football.
Get 'em outta there!
"Costas and Olbermann are baseball guys doing football"
That should tell you all you need to know about how seriously the networks take sports as opposed to making their broadcasts really about entertainment in general.
Football guy, baseball guy, political commentator, comedian, hula dancer. Really doesn't make any difference to them, does it? Because, apparently, it's not about the sport.
