A group of academics have taken it upon themselves to rewrite the Bible, seven percent of it to be precise. In the New International Version of the Bible, "When God created Man" becomes "When God created human beings," and "saints" become "God's chosen people." Examining the translations on contemporary hot-button issues--homosexuality, cross dressing, and the roles of men and women--Today's New International Version doesn't seem to stray far from the text of the King James Bible. And other "translations" have done a lot worse. "There’s nothing wrong with remaining single, like me," St. Paul explains in the Good as New Bible. "But if you know you have strong needs, get yourself a partner. Better than being frustrated." While the changes of Today's New International Version are objectionable, the alterations in Good as New are downright blasphemous. What term better describes the act of objecting to God's word and replacing it with your own own take, which you then pawn off as God's?
All I know is that the "people" who rewrote the Bible as The Good as New Bible, are going to burn in Hell for that. And actually rewriting the bible to the new "International version", is going to spark a lot of arguments. If every single Bible ends up being rewritten, it will give the Librerals ground to stand on now in arguments on issues that are not only wrong but also immoral. Its just as bad as the Supreme Court judges who bend the words of the Constitution to their own needs and feelings. Its bad enough the ACLU has basically rewritten school textbooks, do they have to take away the bible too?
Dan - I can think of a few terms that your spam-killer would shoot down in a heartbeat. The politest is "fatuous, damnable nonsense." When I have to retype passages from a gender-neutral translation, I have to swap words back in: God once again becomes "He" and "Lord," the clunky 'brothers and sisters' goes back to 'brethren.' (I'm glad I didn't toss out my older Bible.)
It seems to me that the lefties don't even let themselves have any fun: I mean, if you're going to complain that Paul was an old closeted mysogynist, wouldn't you want to leave all of Romans untouched, so you could have something to get ticked off about?
Weren't people really pissed off when the King James version came out so long ago? Aren't all translations subject to interpretation? Changing the term "man", which in the bible we seem to think refers to all man kind or human beings, does not really seem so bad. I will admit that I have not read the new version, and I don't plan on it.
"...get yourself a partner..."? That's absurd.
"Weren't people really pissed off when the King James version came out so long ago?" Well "the people" that were "really pissed off" were the Catholic hierarchy; and the reason they oppossed the KJB was not interpretation per se, but that scripture was being translated for the masses at all. Given the appearance of the Good As New Bible (not to mention the hoards of resulting denominations), I'd say their concerns were well justified.
"Aren't all translations subject to interpretation?" Yes, the issue is over who does the interpreting.
Question, why is there such an enormous polarity of viewpoints in this country? More specifically, all we ever hear is the "right" this, and the "left" that... Are both sides simply venting their shortcomings and frustrations on one another? How about working together in a civilised and neutral manner, and supporting the constitution AS IT WAS WRITTEN. Or is it too much, too late already? Is the congress now too entrenched with corruption?
Referring to Iraq's new constituion, Robin Williams said, "Take our's, we're not using it."
Brad,
Just a couple small corrections of the points you make. From the Council of Trent (1546) on The Catholic Church allowed limited vernacular translations of St. Jerome's Latin Vulgate Bible as long as the publication and translation was strictly supervised and annotated by Catholic theologians. So you are correct, who did the interpretation was always considered crucial. Anyway, the KJB is from the early 1600s so objections to it wouldn't have been specifically tied to the translating into the vernacular since Trent allowed for that in Catholic contexts.
Note to Truth,
I Like the Robin Williams quote, only what do these comments have to do with the subject of Dan's post? Thanks for sharing anyway.
Brian,
Thanks for the correction.

James,
I think you are a little misguided here. Everything new religiously and spiritually has always been looked at with much scepticism. I think you should be careful about "damning" people to hell. No one will go to hell for translating something different in today's language, or language that may make it easier for someone else to understand God's scriptures better.
Perhaps if this new version altered passages such as John 3:16, denied that Jesus was God's son, and that he rose from the dead, such as, Thomas Jefferson's Bible, then we could say they are going to hell.
"They" don't teach us the true history of the World. This is because the teacher's themselves were never taught. It is a viscious cycle. This planet had civilisations on it that have long been buried. More advanced than we are today in some respects. Remember, Knowledge is power.
Indeed, truth. Knowledge is power. Especially when it is proven to be true, such as, the knowledge in the Bible.
And elsewhere in the vast universe...
examples please...?
Smoke DMT, you will find out first hand
I think you're constantly high. That would explain your illogical and unrational arguments.
Do you know what was in that Manna that Christ and his followers ate? lol
By the way, the word is irrational, and there is nothing at all illogical about my posts.
