What's the difference between capitulation to the Left and a conservative triumph? Just $5.5 billion, apparently. In the context of a $3.8 trillion budget, the $5.5 billion disagreement between Democrats and Republicans doesn't seem like a very big chasm to bridge. Read my column @ Human Events on how conservative celebrations over the deal to avert a government shutdown have more to do with winning a public relations war than winning a public policy battle.
If House conservatives are willing to fund Planned Parenthood, how serious can they be regarding limited federal government spending as well as regarding their own principles and conscience? They are in control. Limited government only needs their veto. Just when will they exercise their legitimate authority and responsibility to themselves, their promises, and to the people?
They are afraid of debating this "War on Women", and will not, at a time when the Senate and Potus go on record as willing to shutdown all otherwise mutually acceptable programs on behalf of federal funding of abortion providers(/political campaign boosters) in a lucrative and widely objectionable industry.
Planned Parenthood must be the first to go or else how can these conservatives consistently argue to cut anything, let alone answer their consciences?
Democrats win because they are simply tougher, nastier and play down right dishonestly and dirty. And Republicans don't.
The Dems get away with this because they know that they will win the public relations war as they have most of the media in their back pockets.
There is zero consideration in their minds about what's right for the United States of America because as far as they are concerned, whether it's ruling this country or being a member of the Politburo, it's all about elitist power.
Boehner is weak. And he's more than happy to 'go along to get along' because he likes being in the club and being squishy with colleagues is a way to cruise under the radar until the next election cycle.
If it weren't for this new freshman class comprising of many Tea Party backed candidates, does anybody really think that there would be any resistance at all to the massive budget put forth by the Marxist in Chief and the other America hating Socialists in Congress?
I agree w/Guido that the House could have brought the Gov to halt and exposed the Abortion Issue as the PRIMARY issue, and most sacred of cows, of the Democratic Party. Those against abortion are consistently referred to as "one issue voters", how funny it would have been to turn the tables. Yet it was the Tea Party, who we are led to believe are the uncompromising, stick-it-to 'em, on-the-attack wing of the GOP, are the very ones who caved. They got scared of being branded religious zealots, along with the rest of the GOP (as if they weren't already), and made a political calculation. How quickly they start to play it safe. Don't get wrong: I'm not disillusioned. I never believed they had any balls to begin with. But especially for those of us against abortion, against murdering babies, a real blow was dealt us on Friday night. This was a real opportunity to chip away at the fundamental Dem support for abortion, and they blew it.
I can't wait for the "adult" coversation about abortion....
My teen son called me last week and asked frantically what a government shutdown would mean. His socialist teachers were Chicken Littling their young charges and he was worried.
I too explained that the world world of business and basic commerce would continue and the world as we know it would not end. He was calmed.
Before government, did anybody really need government? And does any working productive person need government now other than those who govern and those who benefit from government re-dribution?
Pardon my mis-spellings and punctuation. F'ing Blackberry.
