Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg are aghast that Bill O'Reilly noticed the presumed coincidence that all of the 9/11 hijackers happened to have been practitioners of the Muslim faith. Knowing that liberals can so quickly forget that Muslims killed nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11 makes their poor memory regarding much of the last century easier to understand. From eugenics to spying on Martin Luther King, from the internment of Japanese to dropping the bomb on them, liberals forget that the American history they are ashamed of today was liberal policy yesterday. Read my column @ Human Events on why liberals are constantly undergoing self-serving fits of amnesia and projecting their embarrassments upon political enemies.
If liberals were honest and did not force themselves to take stock in revisionist history, they would have to become conservatives. But the aren't honest and would rather continue to delude themselves in order to maintain a false sense of superiority.
OSHA standards, minimum wage laws, child labor laws, 40 hour work weeks, public infrastructure (Hoover Dam, NASA, the internet, roads, sanitation), universal k-12 education, universal health care, women's suffrage, civil rights legislation, repealing DADT, Glass-Steagall market protections, Social Security, Medicare, and the list goes on and on.
Thank you, liberals.
And don't forget repealing slavery.
Oh wait, that was a Republican.
You do realize that, regarding the 19th century and early 20th century, not all Republicans were conservative, right? In fact, many were considered very liberal.
And you do realize, do you not, that not all Democrats have been Liberal?
Good ol' boy Robert Byrd comes to mind. And Al Gore's dad...remember the Civil Rights Act? You know, the one he didn't vote for. And the one that more Republicans than Democrats voted for.
However, Lincoln still has an (R) by his name. You may try to lay claim to his legacy, but you would fail.
Kennedy (D) by the way...got America into Vietnam.
Johnson (D) by the way...escalated the war.
Nixon (R) by the way...and I'll grant you this is a shocker...ended the war. And created the clean air act. Created the EPA...presided over title IX. And was a Conservative.
Oh, and on the subject of slavery. That guy in England most responsible for its repeal...Wilberforce I think his name was? Yeah, that's it...one of those icky Christians you despise so much.
There are good and bad on both sides of the aisle and you certainly cannot lay claim to every good thing that has happened in the history of your country...although you try again and again.
While we're at it:
Conservative Christians (aka the Puritans) fled Europe due to religious persecution of their conservative ways and in the process founded a pretty neat new nation.
Progressive Marxist/Socialists overthrew the Russian Monarchy and ended up enslaving and killing millions over the course of 60 years.
Progressive National Socialists overthrew the Weimar Republic and ended up enslaving and killing millions (and starting a World War).
It took a Republican to come to the realization that slavery was anathema and it took those same Republicans to push through the Civil Rights act in the face of your Democrats.
Granted, liberals have had some good ideas. It usually takes Conservatives to get it right.
Hey ASDF...what was it you JUST said about liberals trying to re-write history? You can't have Lincoln PMA...he was never yours.
Martin Luther King was a Republican, was he not?
Sharpton and Jackson keep forgetting to mention that...
Shakespeare was a Catholic.
I'm not really a big fan of Lincoln. He was a liberal, but sadly he was a statist, too, and there are plenty of liberals who are not statists (Glenn Greenwald, Noam Chomsky) and plenty of conservatives who are (George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan). So, Lincoln is a bad example of a liberal. But, he certainly was a liberal.
Abhoring slavery really isn't a "liberalism".
And, don't forget to add Barack Obama to your list of statists.
