Flying Blind

On 9/11, nineteen young men sharing the same Islamic faith and Arab heritage hijacked four planes and killed nearly 3,000 people. To prevent future hijackings, the federal government demands that its airport security forget past hijackings. Specifically, government rules dictate that airport screeners treat elderly black women the same as twenty-five year old Muslim men. My review of Michael Smerconish's Flying Blind wonders if the government's indulgence of political correctness in favor of some passengers' convenience comes at the expense of other passengers' safety.

Good review.

I wish that are political correctness as regards airport screening were simply a false veneer to mollify the vocal lefty element while more realistic and hard-nosed measures of security were actually continued but I doubt this is the case.

For example, I wouldn't mind if 8 year old boys were screened extra, or blue haired grannies, IF the profiling of terrorists was still going on and all Arabic men fitting the bill were subject to it. This way the "random screening" of 8 year olds would just be a ploy to "keep up the appearances."

This may in fact be what certain airlines are actually doing but I think that Bush policy is probably not promoting that unless they are REALLY good at "keeping up appearances." After all, W. did praise the insane affirmative action decision (MI Law School) of the SC last year.

We should be implementing whatever measures Tel Aviv Air uses, they have never had any terrorist successes against them and for obvious reasons they are a huge target for Islamic radicals.
