A teacher at Lexington, Massachusetts' Estabrook Elementary School read second-graders a book called King and King, which is about a prince who falls in lust with a princess's brother. Some parents, even in Lexington, object. "My problem is that this issue of romantic attraction between two men is being presented to my 7-year-old as wonderful and good and the way things should be," remarked Robin Wirthlin. "We feel like 7 years old is not appropriate to introduce homosexual themes." But officials at the public school believe they know how to raise Mrs. Wirthlin's child better than she does. They think talking homosexuality with second-graders is appropriate. "We want all of our families and all of the children to feel that they're welcome and included there, and one of the ways to do that is to show different kinds of families," maintained Helen Cohen of the Lexington school committee. Really? Are Catholic families welcome? How about Evangelicals? Even just stodgy traditionalist families? We already know the answer. Last year this same school had a complaining parent arrested when he refused to take no for an answer to his request that his first-grader be excluded from classroom discussions of homosexuality.
There is an interesting exchange in the most recent issue of Chronicles over a piece by R. Cort Kirkwood from a few months ago in which he made the claim that sending a child to a public school is a sin: "...any serious Christian knows that putting a child in public school is a grave sin, given the crippling, lowbrow academics and anti-Christian cultural toxins to which such children are exposed."
Having gone to public schools myself, in part, I'm inclined to defend them when they are slighted. But more and more it seems that what I experienced in public school bears little relation to what is happening in classrooms nowadays.
BTW, has anyone ever attended one of the Rockford Institute's Summer Schools? The one for this summer looks very interesting, but I'd like to hear from some people that have gone to this thing before.
Anybody who doesn’t believe that there is a recruiting agenda by the Inhalers and their enablers ought to start paying more attention. Could there really be any other good reasons, excepting the diversity scam, to introduce this homo pornography to second graders?
In general, the Socialist Republic of Massachusetts is whacked. But many of these Birkenstock towns like Lexington are totally off the wall and have school systems that promote and most times are adamant about teaching other peoples' children a social education while saying they don’t have the time or resources to teach the three ‘R’s. Can you say ‘Indoctrination’?
No nativity scenes but lots of curriculum directed at ‘alternative’ lifestyles.
If education were not MANDATORY, this wouldn't be a problem. They can get away with this because we are FORCED to send our kids to some school, and if we can't afford a private school (or to home school) you have to go to the state indoctrination center. Most problems like this are far less cultural or ideological than they are Governmental.
Ah, see Homer, that's your mistake. You're thinking like a free person.
I cannot believe you people. And others on various websites. When it is King and King,m its lust and when its Cinderella its love? Give me a break. You are the ones who want to force feed your mind-benindg version of evangelical christinaty down the throats of every American who disagrees with you. It is disgusting. You want to force the Jews to believe as you do (remember the Southern baptist Proclamationa bout that years ago?) You want aborion to be only according to your view (not at all). No one else's religious beliefs matter but yours. This country is NOT about JUST YOU and YOU KIDS. Its also about ME and MY KIDS. And when my children are grown, now one almost is, I know when they go outinto the world they will bring G-d'slove with them, caring and compassionate and leaders in the world. Waht willyou be unleashing onto this world? Another bunchof hooligans who want to kill a matthew shppard, who think bullying gay children in high schools is ok, who think if you beat a gay man then he probably deserved it, who think all lesbians hate men and want to be them (which is just patendtly absurrd).
MAYBE, one day you all might decide to step out of your fake bubble, see the real world, and start treating people with love and respect like Jesus did.
Right now I am angry, but not for myself, but because my poor children have to go to school with yours. And I feel sorry for your chidlren who have probably already been indoctrinated in the language of hate. Indoctrination does not mean tolerance, it means forcing a view on someone. What Lexington is doing is protecting all the children, not just yours. So, get over it. Your kids arent going to run off and join PFLAG just because of reading the book "Who's in a Family" If so, then you didnt do a very good job indoctrinating them. BUT, they might just NOT beat another kid up in the future by reading that kind of a book. But I guess that also goes against your teachings. I was raised evangelical, in the Church of Christ, my whole family are still members, but I have never heard such mean spirited diatribe full of ignorance and misinformation in my life. and YES IM a big fat queer.
Love ya,
Kim
Plus, the father was removed from the school, in hadcuffs, because that was how he chose to leave. He refused. How many of you who may own businesses would just let a customer sit there pissed off all night while you just sit there? No way, you woudl get up and lave, and call the cops to get him. He had no right to stay there after the police asked him to leave of his own accord.
Freedom of Religion is NOT Freddom of one religion, it is freedom of all. My religion, your religion, everyone's. It also isnt the freedom to make sure your religion dictates the school system. Sometimes your religion will not be in the fore, and that is just the way it is. that is why religious decision making has to stay out of the classroom. Because every single thing you said here offends me deeply. The way you teach your children will hurt mine. They will hear mean things from children like yours, and not because your children are bad kids, but because they dont know any better. They will observe you, they see more than you think. And then they will hurt my children, or other children likemine, or gay children.
Or, conversely, one day they will meet gay people. They will realize how mean you actually were. And how ignorant. It is not the school system's job to uphold your moral beliefs. It is the school system's job to be open and welcoming to all the children so that they all can learn and reach their potential. That includes children like yours, of heterosexual parents, and children like mine, of lesbian parents.
One more thing. Themajority of gay parents Iknow, are christians, go to church, and do everything you do. You try to explain away your hatred and cruelty by saying we are ungodly, when we are not. You try to make your hatred and evil ok, by saying we are deviant and promiscuous, and as for me I know that isnt true. How many lies will you and your organizations have to tell to win,a nd what kind of win will it be? I will know at the end of the day I spoke truth, I lived kindly and generously, I taught my children to be accepting and loving, I taught my kids to love God...what will you have?
Like I said before, if you really think King and King is porno, and you really think Who's in a Family will pervert your children, you have done an extremely poor parenting job...or, rather, fear that you will, so instead of trying to control what you do and what you say, you try to control what the world says.
Grow up. And get off the adolescent self-centered ferris wheel for once in your life. Its not all about YOU,
