O.k., my vote goes for Buttercup of the PowerPuff Girls. The show is great but she is a bit more than just a tomboy in my opinion.

My vote for most not-gay character would be Captain Caveman, he always had those babes, the Teen Angels, swooning for him.

I presume we're specifically nominating "in" characters, and not guys like Smithers or the Ambiguously Gay Duo. In that case I'd nominate Speed Racer's mechanic, Sparky. It's a slam-dunk. There's even an episode where Speed, needing a navigator for a race, decides to take his girlfriend Trixie. Sparky whines about it so much that Speed slaps him. Seeing it for the first time in 25 years was truly disturbing.

Alright. Now I am sure that most of you chuckle about Sponge Bob whenever you see my name. If I had a dime for every time someone asked me if I was Sponge Bob's Daddy I would get to enter PBA Tourneys for life. For the record, I am not related to Sponge Bob, and the accusations many throw out about me being involved in his paternity are mere speculation by the tabloids.

No, I don't think Sponge Bob is gay. He is written to children and children shouldn't be asked to think about sexuality like that. Sponge Bob is perpetually about 11 years old, so I don't think his sexuality is something he thinks about. Attempts to paint him as being gay, by both gays and gay-bashers are another symptom of the "us vs them" mentality.

Now then, for the lighter side.

My vote for "gayest" cartoon character ever. Gumby (okay, he was claymation). Gumby was often described as being "flexible." And I will defer to Johnny Carson as "Carnac" for more proof.

Carnac-"Turn around and do the 'Hokey-Pokey."

Answer-"Name the grossest thing Gumby ever did."

I have to agree with Finbar...Mr. Slave from Southpark is without a doubt,the most flaming homosexual cartoon character of all time. I don't think i've ever laughed so hard as when I watched the episode when they shoved a mouse up his, well, you get the point.

This is a tough one, especially when Big Gay Al and Mr. Slave are added to the mix. The Tele-tubbies of course deserve gay mention. Their gayness is obviously less than the two aforementioned fans of manlove, but any kid watching them for more than 5 minutes will probably start humming the theme to Queer Eye in no time. Also deserving mention are the Wiggles. Chartoon characters no, but I bet they're all gay. And Velma from Scooby Doo had to be a fan of the Indigo Girls and of course, Daphne. Freddy always had a smile on his face for a reason, people.

When people complain about "Spongebob" being gay, aren't they talking about Patrick, not Spongebob himself? I don't get cable, so I went to the Spongebob movie to see what the kids are watching. I thought it was a great cartoon, but was definitely disturbed at the sight of Patrick coming out as a flaming drag queen at the end. What the hell is THAT doing in a cartoon for 5-10 year olds???

Hearing the activist Christian groups complain about Spongebob homosexuality, I assumed they were talking about the Spongebob character Patrick, and I back their complaint 100%. Why in the world should little kids be thinking about homosexuality? All it does is cause taunts about who is going to turn out to be homosexual to be the leading form of cruelty for children. I don't think this is going to be a source of goodwill for homosexuals when the kids who have to live with this crap grow up.

Through friends and family I know several kids in the target demographic, and only once have I ever heard any sort of reflection on the subject: my cousin (10) saw two girls kiss (on the evening news - thanks a bunch, ABC!) and her immediate reaction was, "Ew. That's icky."

I don't think Patrick's turn as a lady starfish was meant as any paean to transvestitism or homosexuality, and no 5-10 year old would see it so. Kids just laugh for the silliness of a boy dressed up like a girl.
