Ireland once made hell for foreigners seeking domination. Now they have voted for it. Ireland rejected the Treaty of Lisbon last year. But, like the kid who wants to play until he wins, the Eurocrats imposed another vote on the Emerald Isle. This time the bad guys won. The treaty creates a sort of United States of Europe, which is as dangerous to the sovereignty of the states of Europe as the United States of America was to the states of America! Also alarming is the wedge the union threatens to pry between America and various friendly European countries, now subsumed by a transnational body dominated by several continental nations less friendly to American interests. Nile Gardner expounds on this startling development @ NRO's Corner--read it, and weep. The soldiers of France and Germany never could quite conquer Europe. The bureaucrats of France and Germany are a more resilient bunch.
The massive disregard by the U.S. for how quickly things can change in the world is evident in the defense industry.
One has to wonder whether the development of the F-35 (just to take one glaring example) will come back to bite us in the ass. We shared everything there was to know about the F-35 with our current "allies" (one also has to ask, what is the great cause for which we are "allied"?), and all sharing was approved by the US State Department under a special program that elimiated quite a bit of prior review before disclosure. Yet it appears that nearly all but Israel will abandon it for the Typhoon or Russian Sukhois. It is worth noting that the EU players (save the UK) were not so willing to share the Typhoon technology with the U.S....
Anyone else think we're just too damn trusting these days?
It all goes way beyond being too trusting Homer. There is a group in power these days that have no national interests and would hand our country over to the world for politically philosophical or monetary reasons. Or likely both. Haven’t we seen this for the last 20 years or so? We don’t guard the secrets of our technology, our weaponry, many of our industrial programs and innovations; we don’t make anything anymore and businesses that reap the advantages of operating inside of our borders are encouraged by our government to do business outside of our borders. In conjunction with this, we have no real borders to speak of. Two relatively weak eight year Presidential terms in which both mastered the art of selling America out to the highest bidder and consequently down the tubes. And the current regime is just hammering the final nails into the coffin.
If we don’t get it right soon, we will be the 21st Century Rome. May already be too late.
The folks I feel the worst for are the parents of those brave kids on foreign soil being used as cannon fodder by a regime that has no clue what they’re doing and who are more interested in what the world thinks of us than solidifying battle rules of engagement and demonstrating that we’re serious.
The world laughs and licks chops.
By the way, I loved this line -
"The treaty creates a sort of United States of Europe, which is as dangerous to the sovereignty of the states of Europe as the United States of America was to the states of America!"
Perfect.
