There is a certain hysterical mindset that sees every looming recession as the next Great Depression; every possible conflict, the next Vietnam War. Technically, we are not even in a recession. Save for that minor one we experienced in 1991, we haven't been in a recession--two straight quarters of economic decline--since the early 1980s, which is why some people can't discuss an economic downturn in a rational manner.
And the $100 Billion revenue-generating IBM just reported a 20% increase in 3Q PROFIT. Not revenue -- PROFIT.
But, that's not the kind of news that sells peanut butter and tampon commercials (sorry for that pairing).
As you know, technique of the left my friend.
If things are good, the Dems lose so they consistently manufacture Doom & Gloom.
I find GOPers being a wee bit more optimistic.
Homer: minus the tampons, I like that general combination.
O stinks!

"I find GOPers being a wee bit more optimistic."
Yea, even though millions of people will never be able to retire now, they still say the economy is strong.
Optimism does not equal bold faced lies. And from what I have seen, the right has been the premire fear monger for the last 7 years, and now here comes Palin to keep it going.
"Who is the REAL Barak?" , if she had been paying attention in the last 8 months she would recognize how dumb she is for saying that. He has had the fine tooth comb treatment and she has been refrained from saying anything not spoon fed to her. Classic Freudian defense mechanism of projection.
Hey K.......... ;-)~
