A Spanish judge issued warrants Wednesday for the arrests of three U.S. Army tank crewmen who fired a round that killed two journalists staying in an Iraq hotel. Relying on the same authority, I am issuing a warrant for the arrest of Judge Santiago Pedraz. When your posse catches up with him, just make up a charge that suits you and proceed to administer punishment: a nature wedgie, a gookie cookie, and an Indian sunburn should suffice. As you send him on his way, kick him really hard in his hindquarters and say "hasta la vista." Pretend that you're proud of yourself for knowing Spanish. This will at once let him know that you're an American for using such a generic Spanish phrase, and reinforce his stereotype of Americans as ignorant cowboys. The effect of this will be to keep him thousands of miles away from us, and prevent his emigration to the United States even on the condition of the Moors return to Spain. Alright, you've heard my judicial order. Now saddle up and get this guy.
If you don't have a problem with the United States dispensing justice against Saddam Hussein, what's your gripe with a Spanish judge trying to dispense justice against American soldiers? Or is the United States the only country that is permitted to be judge and jury for the world?
Eric, two entirely different scenarios. If you're going to come up with another anti-American tirade, at least base it in fact. Next you're going to regurgitate the NY Times editorial which states the trial of Saddam is a kangaroo court, and the Iraqi government is illegitimate.
Two factual questions should determinne whether Wilds' criticism is valid or invalid. Is Saddam being tried (a) by Americans or Iraqis?, (b) under new laws or under laws that were in effect (legally or culturally) during Saddam's reign?
That's not a valid point. If a foreign judge issued an arrest warrant for Donald Rumsfeld and then had Americans like Michael Moore and Noam Chomsky sit on the jury would that be justice?
I'm not arguing Saddam isn't guilty of the crimes alleged against him. I'm pointing out that a Spanish judge issuing an arrest warrant for American soldiers is no different from the United States putting Saddam Hussein on trial. If we can intervene in another countries' affairs why can't they mingle in ours?
Ok, well...let's see the Spanish come and get 'em.
