Cuba Bans Smoking, Finally

Cuba has banned smoking in public places. The state of affairs in the tropical Alcatraz is so sorry that this former trendsetter in oppression now takes its cues from Friendship Heights, Maryland and Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Don't forget the ban in NYC and I think there has been one in San Fran for a long time.

But of course where is my head . . . How dare you imply that smoking bans constitute oppression! I mean there are people voting in Iraq for the first time ever!!! Don't you understand freedom and democracy, wait that is redundant (just see Sharansky's book title and subtitle), freedocracy is on the march!!!

That means no smoking allowed.

It make sense to ban smoking in some places... hospitals, primary & secondary schools, and any place that stores and/or sells flammable material (like gas stations). Other than that, it should be up to the business OWNER, not a lawmaker, to decide whether (or not) to ban smoking.

The goverment should ban smoking in fireworks factories and in oil refineries. Thats it.

Interestingly enough, another thing Cuba banned in public, a little farther in the past, political dissent.

The hidden agenda for this smoking ban is that the cigars and cigarettes being extinguished are being put out on the arms and legs of political prisoners and anti-government activists. The smell of burning flesh will remain in the Cuban air.

A penchant for the melodramatic, mayhaps? ^_^

Smoking a cigar in a bar is almost offensive to begin with and I am a smoker. I was watching the Super Bowl at a house with two cigars going in the room and I started having trouble getting oxygen into my lungs. How anyone can smoke cigars indoors kills me? Not to mention how awful my clothes smelled when I got home. Don't get me wrong, a cigar on the golf course is fantastic, but inside, I feel like I am trapped in a gas chamber.

Except for a brief time as a Yute, I’ve never been into tobacco products of any kind.

I think it is one of the most disgusting and unhealthy habits imaginable.

But, I am a strong believer in personal freedoms and although I don’t think that smokers should be able to apply their habit anywhere they want, I do think that they should be allowed to pollute their own bodies however they want to.

So, people could be less judgmental of smokers in general and as long as they don’t light up in a restaurant when people are trying to enjoy a meal, it’s ok.

what gets to me is they ban smoking at OUTSIDE baseball stadiums. The Liberals gas-guzzling SUVs and the Elites limos and private jets put out more carbon dioxide than my cigarette. Thats one of the reasons why this country is slowly decaying, because its being ruled by the moral minority instead of the moral majority.
