ASDF, at 3-1, is the football pool winner for the conference championship games. Make three picks for the Super Bowl: 1. The team that will cover the spread; 2. Whether the point total will go "over" or "under" 54; 3. Your final score prediction. Here are my picks:
1. PATRIOTS -12 over Giants; 2. Over 54; 3. Patriots 38, Giants 16.
Make your selections and your smack talk in the comments section.
Giants; Under 54; Patriots 27, Giants 20.
Brady hasn't been himself lately. If he is completely well, I will likely be quite wrong. But if he isn't, the Giants have a chance at winning.
Pats, over, Pats 35 Giants 21
PATRIOTS over Giants
Under 54
PATRIOTS 35, Giants 17.
Giants
OVER 54
Giants 31 Pats 27
Giants, Under 54, Pats 31 Giants 21
I posted this in the football thread below, but I think everyone had moved on. Just in case you havn't seen it, here is the greatest youtube video ever. And as I said below, "I'm with Hitler" (except for the part where he takes solace in a possible Pats victory):

Hmm. Apparently that link is dead. Here's an alternate:

The Celtics are currently tooling all over the Heat sans KG & Ray Allen. This has nothing to do with the Super Bowl but I just felt like gloating about how bad the Heat are.
Though it's only be a regular season game, and therefore, completely meaningless, I'll still take a small measure of satisfaction when the Mavs beat the Celtics on Thursday night.
Won't happen if KG and Ray Allen are healthy enough to play and play well. Sans Devin Harris, the Mavs don't match up.
Even without Devin (who's been playing at an All-Star level for the last month), not to mention Stackhouse, the Mavs will beat a healthy Celtics team in Boston. Dallas is the deepest team in the league. They have guys who don't even play (Juwan Howard, Devean George, and usually Trenton Hassell), that would start on a lot of Eastern Conference teams. And their "backup" PG, Jason Terry, is really a starter. He's coming off the bench in much the same way that Ginobli comes off the bench in San Antonio. (Which reminds me. What the heck is happening to the Spurs. They lost to Seattle last night. Seattle!)
The Spurs age has caught up with them.
If the Celtics are healthy there isn't a team in the league that matches their talent. Funny that the "deepest team in the league" is in second place in its own division.
I'll forgive you. As a younger Celtics fan you're not used to having a good team. So you think regular season records and ranks means something. In fact, in the last decade, the team with the best regular season record has won the championship only once (the Spurs did it).
As for matchups. Dirk is outscoring KG this season (even while taking a back seat to Howard and Harris), and his rebounding, assists, and blocks are comparable. And Dirk has owned KG for the last five or six years, including in the playoffs. Josh Howard's numbers (points, rebounds, FG%) are better than Pierce's this season. Dallas doesn't have a 2G as good as Ray, but that's balanced out by the fact that the Dallas centers and PGs are vastly superior to Boston's. Add the fact that Dallas brings real talent -- Stackhouse and Terry -- off their bench, and it's not even close. Remember that Boston plays in the East. Out West they'd be fourth or fifth. Also remember that Boston is tanking (what's their record over the last 15 games?).

You said the Mavs are the deepest team in the league. Why should we believe it? There is no reason to right now. Just taking your word for it that they will suddenly start playing notably better than they have been come to post-season is not enough.

Boston isn't tanking. They had three key injuries in a row (Rondo, Posey, KG) and as a result have been a .500 team over their last ten games. If they are healthy enough on Thursday to produce they will win.
I'm sure Dallas does put up more points with their big scorers. That's fine. The Celtics play D. Better than any other team in the NBA in fact.
P.S: Anyone that still believes Boston doesn't have a good bench has been living under a rock.
"The Celtics play D. Better than any other team in the NBA in fact."
Regular season stats are irrelevant. But since we're talking regular season, here's a stat you should be concerned about: against the teams currently ranked 2nd, 3rd, and 4th in the East, Boston is a combined 3-5.
I'll also add that Boston has yet to play the top 3 teams in the West: New Orleans, Phoenix, and Dallas.
Finally, Dallas is the only team in the NBA that is ranked in the top D in both scoring and scoring defense. Dallas is also top 10 in opponents' FG%.
Ay caramba! We had to listen to Ralphie ad nauseam go on about how the Boyz would be kicking NFL bootay all the way to the big bowl and now in a post about the most important football game in the last thirty six years, we need to hear about f’ing Mavs basketball? I know you’re Dallas-centric but pluuueeease. And a local started it. Sad.

"Regular season stats are irrelevant."
Unsupported assertion.

They lose the first time, then come back and win the next game. Thats fine with me, since it will be no problem in a seven game series.
And the fact that they lost to the Magic (in their house) on a butter beater 3 means that they would have beaten that team with KG, if you think hes worth more than 3 points in a game.

They swept the Lakers when they had Bynum and the best record in the west. They also comfortably defeated Portland when Portland was playing the best ball in the western conference by far.

Don't know what you mean by "In the top D"

Theres nothing interesting to talk about the Super Bowl. The Pats are gonna wipe the floor with the Giants, thats all there really is to say about it. Its NBA season now, save for that one, really unnecessary, coronation game for the Pats.
Heard an interesting interview with Jonathan Kraft (a.k.a. - Pats owner) this morning where he talked about the 16-0 regular season. He said that the first (and one of the few) congratulatory phone calls he and his Father got after the Giants game was from Dallas’ Jerry Jones. Class.
He also talked about how the Pats, even when tempted, hold the line on players that they want. As an example, they came very close to not selecting Brady as they had three good QB’s already. But during the draft Bill kept going up to the board to check on where Brady’s name was and continued to look at him as his stock slipped, eventually to the sixth round where he snapped him up. Not knowing that Bill had scouted Brady and coveted the selection (and wanted to take him in a higher round), the Krafts looked at each other like he had gone mad. Bill got his QB and the rest, as they say, is history.
Hey Ralph! No KG...No problem!
I should have noted that the third pick--the final score prediction--is a tie breaker pick and will matter only if two or more players got the first two picks right.
Stay away from the sharp instruments Ralph.
No need to avoid sharp instruments. Like I said, given the past two seasons, I'm past being concerned with the regular season. Obviously, I'd like to win rather than lose, but I don't worry about what happens in January.
Boston has a better team than I gave them credit for. Rondo has got some game (the rebound he stole from Dirk and the resulting putback was the difference in the game). And I thought Powe played a solid game. Of course, when Ray's shot is falling like that, it's very difficult to defend him (even with the great wing defenders Dallas has).
My minor complaint is the call that Pierce got in the closing minutes of the game. He basically ran over Devean George, and George got the blocking foul. Terrible call. That said, it was a good game on the road that came down to the wire. I know you'll say that Boston was missing KG, and there's no doubt that he adds a lot on both ends of the floor, but don't forget that Dallas was missing both Harris and Stackhouse (they account for a combined 24 points a night; and Harris, in addition to being the Mavs' best perimeter defender, also runs the offense). I look forward to the rematch in Dallas.
The story that just won't go away:

If our useless elected government layabouts spent as much time taking care of our country's business as they do getting involved in things that don't concern them, this nation would be stronger and a better place to live.
Just tucking on Superman's cape.

Well I feel comfortably numb. No fire in my belly for next season though. Last season I was ready to go for this year as soon as we lost that AFC title game. This year, I just feel nothing.
