PETA, which led the charge to throw NFL star Michael Vick in jail for staging pit-bull fights to the death, now says the right thing to do with the fifty or so dogs left on Vick's property is to, well, kill them. "These dogs are a ticking time bomb," PETA's Daphna Nachminovitch told the Associated Press. "Rehabilitating fighting dogs is not in the cards. It's widely accepted that euthanasia is the most humane thing for them." Humane? Isn't that "speciesist"? The humane thing isn't always the canine thing. It's good to see PETA choose people over animals occasionally, but it's ironic that Vick will serve more time for killing fewer animals than those two PETA creeps caught dumping dead dogs and cats in dumpsters. That's right, PETA puts perfectly healthy animals to sleep. The duo received, with the help of PETA funded-lawyers, mere littering convictions. Michael Vick may do a year or more in the penitentiary, lose millions of dollars in salary and endorsements, and crucial years for a mobile quarterback.
Yawn. I still don't see what the big deal is. Even PETA agrees these animals are better off dead. Why can't a brother make a little money off it in the process?
I must also take issue with the head of the NAACP, who says that Vick is getting more attention than if he had killed someone. Actually, this story is mostly on the front pages of the sports section, not on A1. Also, I seem to remember another football player who killed 2 people and I believe he got slightly more press.
Well, for starters, it's a felony. Disagree? Take it up with Congress. In the meantime, the law's the law.
Concerning the morality of Vick's actions, the fact that Vick was involved in dogfighting is (for me) not the primary issue. According to his 'friends,' Vick executed the losers by drowning or electrocuting them. That's vicious.
Finally, the Feds aren't responsible for Vick's career being ruined. If there were no prison sentence, the NFL commisioner would still suspend Vick for at least two years. The League isn't so much concerned with the dogfighting as the betting. Professional athletes, coaches, and officials cannot gamble. It threatens the game. Just look at what's happening to the NBA.
Why if the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT making charges in a case involving DOG FIGHTING in VIRGINIA?
What would Richard Henry Lee say?
Federalism is dead.
I told you so.
I agree with shorty over there.
Also, I don't give a crap about Vick or his career. I just don't know why I should care what he does to dogs, nor do I think the fact that he's black should make any difference (what the hell is NAACP doing commenting on this issue in the first place?). I also don't really see why he should go to jail -- the NFL can, of course, do whatever it wants in enforcing behavior standards on their players when off the field.
God Hates Pit Bulls.
What Vick did was truly despicable but not unexpected from a project punk and aspiring gangsta. But, outside of the fact all of what he did was against the law, these were DOGS he was killing. The way these activist and animal loving nuts jobs are acting, if he had tortured and killed the Pope it would have been less of a crime (heard one the other day say that Vick should get the death penalty).
Read today that there will be around 50 of his pack euthanized as nobody wants them. So, even with the heinous way he and his posse disposed of them, what's the difference if dogs that are bred for one purpose only fulfill their lives for that purpose or are put down as useless?
How about euthanizing Michael Vick?
I still don't understand how some can elevate animals over people. That's not to say that there have not been animals I prefer over certain people but when it comes down to thinking it's A-ok to give a death sentence to Vick for what he did but not to some dogs, I just don't get it.
Vick is unadulterated, sub-human scum. He's lower than an animal.
By what measure is he 'lower than an animal'?
Last night I was flipping and watching MNF featuring the Falcons and Bengals in between the Tigers beating the begezzes out of the Yankees, both being on ESPN.
You'd think that Vick had just kicked off Armageddon. Way too much information.
