Week Eight: Are You Ready for Some Football?

DocMcG and me were co-winners of week seven's football pool, sporting 8-5-1 records. Pay homage. What an anticlimatic way for the survival pool to end! All four remaining players--Dennis, DocMcG, Ralph, and myself--got clipped in week seven. Can we have a survival pool without a sole survivor? I think not! So, Dennis, DocMcG, and Ralph, keep picking until there's only one of us left. Under rules I just now invented, there must be a sole survivor.

All picks are against the spread. Home teams are in caps. Here are my selections: TITANS -3 over Texans, Jaguars +7 over EAGLES, BENGALS -4.5 over Falcons, GIANTS -9 over Bucs, Niners +16.5 over BEARS, PACKERS -3.5 over Cards, CHEIFS -6.5 Seahawks, SAINTS -2 over Ravens, CHARGERS -9 over Rams, RAIDERS +9 over Steelers, BROWNS -1.5 over Jets, Colts +3 over BRONCOS, PANTHERS -5.5 over Cowboys, and, on Monday Night Football, Patriots -2.5 over VIKINGS. Make your selections in the comments section.

Survival Pool Pick: Chicago Bears New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks.

That's BS. There was no sole survivor, we all died, some earlier than others.. how come you 4 get an extra life?! Don't bother responding Dan I won't be back from anger management class 'til late.

I feel like a new man. Another chance to survive, and no more Bledsoe. We've all become Romo lovers, or "Romo-sexuals," here in Dallas. Let the march to the Super Bowl commence.

Here goes jack $hit....

Texans
Eagles
Falcons
New York football Gints
Da Bearss
Pack
Cheifs
Saints
Bolts
Steelers
New York Jets
Broncos
Panthers
Patriots

Hate to break it to you Ralph, but the Romo experiment and the Bledsoe demotion is the least of da Boyz problems. Meddling owner, disinterested coach, troubled wide receiver would kill them this year even if Tom Brady were wearing the star on the helmet.

asdf,

You are certainly right. The Boys have been bad nearly across the board (we do have a pro-bowl caliber punter, though). The hope, however small, is that Romo's presence will have a domino effect: (1) A QB that is a threat to run for significant yardage if the defensive line breaks containment slows down the pass rush a little bit which helps the O-line; (2) ditto with the run; if a QB is a threat to bootleg off the handoff, it slows down the pursuit to the ball carrier; (3) and if the line is able to do a better job pass-blocking, our pro-bowl tight-end, Witten, is able to become a threat down the field again instead of staying home to block; (4) and with Witten drawing attention from linebackers and safeties, there are more chances for Glenn or T.O. to beat single coverage. In short, if Romo can avoid stupid turnovers (a big if, I admit), the switch has a chance to dramatically improve the entire offense.

Ralph, I wish you the best and hope da Boyz do well as I do like them (for some odd reason). I guess as I'm still a Bledsoe sap, I was pulling for them. And I agree that Romo will give you the mobility that Bledsoe doesn't. But, hands down, even with his mental flaws, Bledsoe gives you the best chance to win.

I'm saying this coming from a place where our team has won three recent Super Bowls. And maybe Romo is going to be Brady. I hope for Dallas' sake that's the case. If he isn't, I stand by Bledsoe.

We too have been through the Parcells/Bledsoe experiment and even though the two accounted for one half azzed Super Bowl appearance, I think it's the other side of the equation (ie Parcells) that's the problem.

Outside of the offensive line, Dallas has a pretty good team. I like Jones, Witten and Glenn and even though T.O. is a problem, he can help the team. Just hope he doesn't start badmouthing Romo the way he did with Garcia, McNab and Bledsoe. Guy has proven to be a QB killer.

I've be unable to make the call on anything this year. Why would I even make an attempt to judge the Boyz? Congratulations on your new QB. He looked pretty damn good.
