Does This Mean the Summer Olympics Looks Like an NAACP Convention?

"Count me among those who don't care about them and won't watch them," Bryant Gumbel remarked about the Winter Olympics. Gumbel points to the obscure nature of many of the contests and the large percentage of events decided by subjective judges. So far so good. Then he complains of the "paucity of blacks that makes the winter games look like a GOP convention." Bryant, I hate to break the news to you: Not only do most black people on our planet live in warm climes, but blacks make up a very small percentage of the world's population. In fact, the percentage of blacks in President Bush's cabinet is greater than the percentage of blacks in the world. Did Gumbel expect a Nigerian hockey team? I would tell Bryant Gumbel that he now knows the alienation many race-fixated non-blacks feel watching the lead pack at the Boston Marathon, the medal ceremony after any Olympic 100-meter-dash event, or the ten guys on the court at the NBA all-star game, but I wouldn't want him to call me a racist.

I watched ever so briefly the men's figure skating competition last night. I could almost FEEL the flames from the TV. So does this mean that Bryant Gumbel is a really a homophobe? Seriously, after watching the men's figure skating, followed by the snowb0ard races (which, with it's high-speed crashes, was a welcome relief), I strongly doubt any of the competitors would be caught dead at a GOP convention.

BTW, I can't say SNOWB0ARD???

I noticed that Bryant left out any mention of hockey. I'm not watching the Winter Olympics, but I assume they still have hockey don't they?

Does anyone doubt that the petulant, smug and eminently forgettable Mr. Gumbel owes his one claim to fame to affirmative action? Unlike his thoroughly professional and deserving brother....

As a commenter on another site pointed out, the teams from China, Korea and Japan aren't white, but then, Asians don't count in the ongoing racial Cold War in America. To some they haven't suffered enough, aren't vocal about what suffering they've endured and besides they're doing well economically so there's no need to give them a helping hand.

Any images available of Gumbel on the slopes, like Lynn Swann on the golf course?

Two men were walking down the street. There names were, say, Morris and Barinelli. Barinelli sees a dog on the side walk licking his balls. He turns to Morris and says, "don't you wish you could do that?". Morris says, " yeah but I'm afraid the dog would bite me."

Unfortunately, it seems clear that there is some leveraging going on with regards to high profile blacks in the media and in entertainment or sports by using race to not equalize but to gain racial superiority.

Whites have at least tried to rectify the sins of the past, but blacks just keep on perpetuating a divide by constantly making comments that they think will help their cause by putting people who are not of color back on their heals using collective guilt. This constant barrage is doing more to make the appearance that black people are more racist than whites. This seems to be acceptable in this day and age.

The 60’s accusations that people are still being racist and oppressive does not work in the 90’s and 00’s and is getting old as well as helping to keep racism fresh in people’s minds. This, to an extent, maintains it.

I haven’t heard anything from white commentators about there not being more Whites or Asians in the NBA or NFL and you know what? Whites and Asians are ok with that.

Gumbel and his ilk just look stupid when they make those kinds of comments.

Gumbel is suffering the same fate as many old MSM talking heads - irrelevance. In a feeble attempt to "stir the pot" he comes off with his inane remarks and instead is painted as the race-baiting hustler that he really is.

You can take solace from the fact that Gumbel has always been a racist, but until now never felt a need to expose himself. And further, his little ploy ended up getting him noticed for all the wrong reasons which will no doubt bring an abrupt end to his mostly drab career.

As far as the winter Olympics goes, who can resist settling down in the recliner with beers and snacks nearby to watch an exciting match of curling? And once and for all, is it Turin or Torino?

Sounds like Mr. Gumbel needs to watch my movie Cool Runnings!

Didn't Rush Limbaugh get fired from his sportscasting job for making racist comments? Wonder when they're going to fire Gumball?

I guess Bryant hasn't noticed the black guy who's won two speed skating medals and the black woman who's contending for another bobsled medal.

You dont see too many blcks competing in the olympics because there is no "bling-bling" involved with it. You cant participate in many rap videos being a gold/silver/bronze medalist like you can if you were a basketball star.
