It was 3.2 degrees cooler this December than the December average for the 20th century. Summer ice in the Arctic has increased by more than 25 percent--more than 400,000 square miles--since 2007. The unusually cold weather in Florida will skyrocket the prices of oranges, strawberries, and other fruits. "For the time being, global warming has paused, and there may well be some cooling," a UN scientist concedes. "[T]his may well last two decades or longer." This is the moment when Geraldo Rivera opens Al Capone's vault and finds--nothing.
I'm reminded of the closing act of Inherit the Wind, where the William Jennings Bryan character is portrayed as an ingorant buffoon, while the Darrow character smugly proclaims a victory of science over dumbass hicks and their Bible. (for the record, I'm no fan of Bryan, I'm just an enemy of those who think you're worth as a person is reduced by your belief in God)
When do we get our moment of smuggery over these no-less-religious global warming zealots?
I had to put into perspective for some folks at a gathering this weekend that the planet has been around for somewhere in the vicinity of 4.5 billion years and that semi-erect and erect bipedal humanoids of the modern variety have been around for approximately 200,000 years. And in that time have been using fossils fuels in earnest for between the last 100 and 150 years.
I was trying to highlight the shear arrogance and ignorance of the Climate Change/Global Warming crowd who think that we have made such a difference in our environment and who point to our existence on the planet as the cause for global changes.
You would have thought that I was telling some of them that their hair was on fire. Such a hoot.
How many of the global-warming hysterians predicted that temperatures would not rise over the last decade and change? Did any of them at all predict this? If no, then how seriously should we take their predictions? If they're reacting to the developments of the past decade-plus by sweating bullets about what this does to their credibility, or by acting as if they wish these facts haven't come out, and they haven't had a theory to explain this all along, then doesn't this show that they're devoted to their beliefs no matter what the evidence shows?
The strength of their views, it seems to me, goes beyond the strength of religious conviction. It's something even more deeply rooted. How did this come to be? How could something without thousands of years of belief to support it be the object of such deeply held conviction that empirical evidence to the contrary is something to be despised or shrugged off, instead of something to be welcomed as augmenting the base of all our knowledge?
“then doesn't this show that they're devoted to their beliefs no matter what the evidence shows?”
Yes, this does appear to go “beyond the strength of religious conviction” and the belief by many in anthropogenic Climate Change might the new religion of the Left. Especially considering that most of them seem to have thrown out traditional religious beliefs and value systems.
or this is the moment when the anti-science community embraces studies that are congruent with their biased view of the world.
20 years? How to know that? If it were 20 years of warming you would refute it by attacking the validity and reliability of the research, but when it serves your agenda...
Taken from your article:
"Prof Latif, who leads a research team at the renowned Leibniz Institute at Germany’s Kiel University, has developed new methods for measuring ocean temperatures 3,000ft beneath the surface, where the cooling and warming cycles start."
If he recently developed new methods for deep temperature an@lysis (where the proposed mechanism of change is located), how do we have cyclic data spanning decades on this?
"Prof Tsonis said that the period from 1915 to 1940 saw a strong warm mode, reflected in rising temperatures."
According to the last paragraph, the valid measure wasn't invented yet, this point is moot.
"Like Prof Latif, Prof Tsonis is not a climate change ‘denier’. There is, he said, a measure of additional ‘background’ warming due to human activity and greenhouse gases that runs across the MDO cycles."
They still admit to overall warming.
Nice try though.
It's cooler because of all the work my followers did to cool the earth down. This is all me, if everyone hadn't done what I said we would all be underwater by now. You can thank me now if you wish.
