Rolling Stone has released its top ten Beatles songs. If I release my top ten favorites, the tomorrow me will have a violent argument with the today me. To avert that ugly scene, here are the ten coolest Beatles songs--not the best, the coolest.
10. Good Night The payoff for listening to Revolution 9.
9. Anytime At All John's rock voice is unbeatable.
8. I've Got a Feeling The Beatles can mumble their lyrics and you'll still like it.
7. I've Just Seen a Face Speed metal by acoustic guitars.
6. It's All Too Much The most psychedelic Beatles song.
5. I'm So Tired You'd be tired too after listening to the Maharishi all day.
4. Tomorrow Never Knows Did you know Ringo plays the drums well?
3. You Know My Name (Look the Number) Listen for Brian Jones on sax.
2. Long Long Long This song absolutely gives me the creeps.
1. Rain A Beatles B-side is better than your average band's best A-side.
Got a top ten list? Ten best? Ten coolest? A top five list even? Let's see it in the comments section.
The list has to include "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away." Very spare but very moving....
I need you on the HELP album needs to be on this list.
Nice choice, Rain.
Rain is a good cool choice, I grant you, but *better* than paperback writer?
And I would vote for the entire second half of Abbey Road.
Ah, average band's yes. My mistake.
Good list. Most beatles songs get plenty of credit as they should. But here are a few that I think don't always.
*She's leaving home - Haunting it sticks with you.
*There's a place - Simple lyrics great harmony.
*Across the universe- Brilliant song. I appreciate it more the older I get.
*Here there and everywhere- Class. A song that has magic powers.
*Happiness is a warm gun- Stong vocals. Lyrics are all over the place, great song though.
*Why Don't we do it in the road? - Good question to ask after a first date. And a good song as well
*All together now - Always liked this, sounds like they had fun with this.
*In my Life - Not gonna pump you up but great lyrics.
* Golden Slumbers which morphs together with the end to end a very good album. John seemed to have left the building about this time.

I listened to the Beatles so much while young that it's an impossibility now. Can't bear to hear their songs. Your list is obscure more so than cool. All rock songs should rock. My list would include Birthday, their Twist and Shout cover...forget it. Now all these songs are flooding back in my head. [Primal scream.]
One that is hammering away in my brain is a good one to recall, Blackbird. It doesn't rock, but it's spare and thoughtful.
Yes, "Why don't we do it..." is right. Another one I won't mind replaying. Very Steinbeck.
