Special 'F'Fects

It says something about our culture that dropping an "F" bomb on national television is now seen as a good career move rather than career suicide. Saturday Night Live newcomer Jenny Slate spoke the obscenity on the program's season premiere. Call me cynical but the expletive seems by design--whether by Slate's design or Lorne Michaels' design, I don't know. I do know that everybody is talking about Saturday Night Live, something that has rarely happened in the last five years. As the word's derivation instructs, obscenities belong off scene. Inserting them in the scene, at least on broadcast network television, seems an admission that what is normally on screen isn't quite catching the viewer's attention.

We live in much more crude times these days where guttural speech seems to be somehow acceptable. Worse, when hearing young woman talk like those who navigate our super highways in 18 wheelers.

Was on the train home tonight and listened to a no holds bar F'k fest of bad language from about 15 high school students with accompanying verbal pornography.

Is this how an advancing society should act? Exactly.

Uh, definitely a non-issue.

"With people of only moderate ability modesty is mere honesty; but with those who possess great talent it is hypocrisy."
-Arthur Schopenhauer

Man, you free-market conservatives are really scraping the barrel. Anything to divert attention from your own crimes of hypocrisy and propaganda for the state-corporate nexus.

The last several posts in this blog have been really awful. Why don't you talk about health care, Afghanistan, preventive detention, the financial crisis, the extinction of the middle class, gay rights, cap and trade, anything substantive even if it's conservative, please!

I'd like to know when this blog changed from the Flynnfiles to the PMA's blog?
