He's a little bit country--and a little bit rock n roll. At 24, she's an over-the-hill pop princess. Ryan Adams makes Morrissey seem like a member of Up With People. Mandy Moore scored a bubble-gum pop hit with the appropriately titled "Candy" and starred in "A Walk to Remember," which Wikipedia describes as a "romance between a minister's daughter and an unruly teenager" (Wow, has that ever been done before?). They are engaged to be married, which proves the dictum that opposites attract. In honor of their unusual union (perhaps Massachusetts or Vermont will allow them to marry), I've compiled a list of Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams's ten greatest songs. Enjoy:
10. Ryan Adams When the Stars Go Blue
9. Ryan Adams Cobwebs
8. Ryan Adams Nuclear
7. Ryan Adams So Alive
6. Ryan Adams New York, New York
5. Ryan Adams Harder Now That It's Over
4. Ryan Adams Rock N Roll
3. Ryan Adams Dear Chicago
2. Ryan Adams Crossed Out Name
1. Ryan Adams Come Pick Me Up
Great collection... I love Ryan Adams. No "I Taught Myself How to Grow Old?"
That's a good one that I didn't know. Thanks for pointing it out. I actually own nine Ryan Adams albums--actually seven LPs and two EPs--which, other than Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Bruce, and The Who, is probably as the most I own from any act. Anyhow, I don't own "Easy Tiger" (which also contains "Two"). The album "29" was so horrible that I stayed away from his next few releases. I bought the latest one, and it really reminds me of "Gold" in that it's neither straight rock like "Rock n Roll" nor the more country sound of "Jacksonville City Nights." It's a nice meeting in the middle.
I haven't picked up Cardinology yet but I plan on checking it out. I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan as well. By the way, since I haven't posted here before,(but have been reading your blog for months) I'd like to say that I enjoy your blog and read it almost daily. Your brother used to be my personal trainer and pointed it out to me, so give him some props! :)
Thanks for the kind words, Dan L. I hope my brother didn't push you too hard in the gym. Cardinology is I think his best release in several years, which, considering that Ryan Adams often puts out several albums a year, is saying something. "Cobwebs" and "Crossed Out Name" from the above list are two of the album's more rock-oriented tunes if you want to check them out.
