Milk Acid Was a Bad Choice

I hate getting a song stuck in my head. This is especially true when the song is "I Saw Her Again Last Night" and the reason it's stuck there is because I just heard the news that Papa John Phillips raped his drugged-out daughter Mackenzie, who responded by partaking in a consensual relationship with him. At least that is the One Day at a Time star's twisted story. As much as one might want to believe that Mackenzie's drug abuse discredits her story, one is reminded how much Papa John's drug abuse credits it. If ever a man's demeanor vindicated Nancy Reagan's Just Say No admonition, Papa John's did. When he was sober, he was still stoned. The daughter of the Mamas and the Papas leader remembered, "One night dad said, 'We could just run away to a country where no one would look down on us. There are countries where this is an accepted practice. Maybe Fiji.'" Maybe not.

Great, now I have the "One Day at a Time" theme song in my head.

Also, no comment about how the Russians are laughing at us and our former eastern European allies are scared to death? You have focused on the US domestic agenda on this blog, but our inept foreign policy (which began well before Brak) rarely gets your attention.

Great! This reminded me of Three's Company and now I have that song stuck in my head! Along with thoughts of Suzanne Summers.

Next thing you know Angel is going to say that Jim Rockford did him in his trailer. At least the Rockford theme song is cool.

“no comment about how the Russians are laughing at us and our former eastern European allies are scared to death?”

It is certainly worthy of discussion as we have big problems in this country and outside of this country with the current “leadership” in charge of running things. Until that changes, nothing else will and policies and non-policies alike will be the norm for this gang of incompetent college professors.

But what would you expect from a guy who was raised on how wrong this country is and who will address the world from his new perch as Chairman of the U.N. Security Council? And, who will be speaking to and sucking up to a rogue’s gallery of international reprobates, murderers, dictators and sworn enemies of the United States?

I just hope that Ahmadinejad and Gaddafi are comfortable during their stay in New York. And I’m sure the President has the same concerns.

Of course, the best way to have peace with Russia is to treat them as if the Cold War never ended, stick our nose into their affairs, surround them by expanding NATO to its borders (even though NATO's original charter long since lost its impetus), and otherwise back them in a corner.

It's as if everyone takes as Gospel some neo-con tract, that I imagine if there were truth in advertising would be titled, "How to Gain Enemies and Make Terrorists"

Couldn't have said it better, Eric.

So how DO we deal with power mad dictatorial “ex-Communist” regimes? Send them flowers and use harsh language when necessary? Have they really changed one iota since the Cold War days or is it the same old boss in a new suit? Easy for some to judge how to handle thugs when we're nice and cozy thousands of miles away.

The MacKenzie Phillips revelation is illustrative of the 60's generation (mine) following excess and abandon to it's logical and amoral conclusion. Frightening to realize that these same people and their political progeny are now in power in this country.

Who knows what really happened but at the very least John Phillips was a really bad guy. Just looking at that impish/weasely face was enough to give me the creeps. He's gone now but I always thought of the courtroom scene in "The Wall" when I saw him on the tube: "Just five minutes worm your honor, him and me alone."

It probably doesn't end well for Mac.

The Russians have been a very nationalistic expansionist power since long before the revolution, during the Soviet years, and even to this day. They will always be an aggressive rival despite their recent avoiding of communist claptrap. They should be kept out of their former satellites. It's fine to have normalized relations with them, but they are not friends nor will they be.

Russia has been broke and is broke. Why should we want to stick our nose in their business and make sure they remain/become again our enemy? We say we are horrified at the aggressiveness of "dictators" all around the world, but really, who is more aggressive than us. Put aside the debate about what our intentions really are; how do you think we are perceived? It matters.

And, what on earth are we so scared of?

Guys, stop trolling. Papa John doesn't have anything to do with Russia.

Woodshed.

Ok, I like his pizza.

I blame the trolling on Homer and the subject of incest (eeuuuuggghhh!).

Posted by: Webster on September 23, 2009 03:00 PM

I would agree on both counts. Homer has a particular power over internet participants that's hard to explain. And incest creeps me out.
