Grass, Breakfast of Champions

Kellogg's has dropped uber-Olympian Michael Phelps as a pitchman in the wake of a candid-camera snap of the swimmer taking a hit of marijuana from a bong. Kellogg's loss is the Mendocino County Chamber of Commerce's gain. This article by Doug Bandow got me to thinking. I doubt Michael Phelps eats Frosted Flakes, particularly after witnessing the swimmer devour that high-caloric breakfast while Anderson Cooper interviewed him. A superimposed Phelps appeared alongside Tony the Tiger on a box of Frosted Flakes, but I have yet to see evidence of Phelps actually eating the cereal. We do know, on the other hand, that Michael Phelps smokes pot. There is an undoctored photo of him doing his best imitation of Tommy Chong to prove it. Here's my modest proposal: If Frosted Flakes can connect their sugary digestables to Olympic greatness, might the marijuana industry, with about the same degree of credibility, imply similar miraculous results from using its product? The cannabis industry might also enlist Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton; musicians Paul McCartney, Bing Crosby, and Louis Armstrong; and highbrains Friedrich Nietzsche, Carl Sagan, and Pablo Picasso. Smoke pot and you will become president, go platinum, or host the most watched show in the history of PBS. Is that any more deceptive than eat candy for breakfast and you will become an Olympic champion?

Obama Puts Census Under Rahm Emanuel's Control

Should it bother anybody that the new Commisars running our government have taken the responsibility of crunching census numbers away from Judd Gregg's Commerce Department and put it in the hands of a Chicago thug?

I like it. On it’s face, it’s a good perspective.

And I would agree that casual pot smoking is no big thang’ and not harmful.

But the same sentiments can not be attached to habitual pot smoking which usually leads to a less than nimble thought process.

Have doubts? Watch Katie Couic’s interview (you might ask why? I did!) with Lil Wayne.

Whatevagh. Bottom line is that, as with ingesting alcohol, use or abuse depends on the user.

I think stuff like this just illustrates how we can't live our lives controlled by bumper-sticker slogans. I look at this case and think of the saying that "Only losers use drugs". Well...no, actually...according to the press, the biggest winner of all time actually likes to hit the bong on occassion.

Do we have time, as a culture, to discuss ANY issue in great detail?

Schizophrenia must be a condition brought on by pot smoking.

Mr. Hope and Change before the election – Mr. Doom and Gloom after the election.

Coincidence? I think not!

"But the same sentiments can not be attached to habitual pot smoking which usually leads to a less than nimble thought process."

Perhaps it is actually the other way around?

I've got a question: when Terry Glenn was caught running around naked last week and they busted him, in addition, for pot possession, where was he hiding the weed?

What is written here might be taken to insinuate that pot smoking enhances or at least doesn’t inhibit talented people. I ’m not really sure that it holds water that being successful in your field of endeavor is not just in spite of pot smoking.

Whatever your particular talent or expertise happens to be - if you’ve got it, you’ve got it.

So it’s wonderful to note famous and accomplished people who are smokers. But outside of knowing them for what they do, do we know whether or not pot has affected their lives or their performance?

All I can do is observe some of the famous ones and take away an opinion from personal experiences and would offer that people who have been habitual lifelong pot smokers are generally fried.

I might also say that it’s no coincidence that most of the famous tokers belong to the more artistically creative crowd. That is, people who are focused on a one minded skill set.

Don’t get me wrong, I could care less if people smoke pot or not. But I think that some tend to discount its long term effects as being innocuous.
