I don't know what happened to The Killers. I absolutely loved Hot Fuss, but I feel like the songwriting completely falls apart afterwards.
Viva la Vida gets my vote.
I don't follow pop music as much as you do, but Viva La Vida kicks a$$. It's a great tune, and the lyrics are nearly perfect. They are poignant and paint the same kind of picture great literature does...without being pretentious in the least.
