The Rolling Stones played a surprise set in New York City today to announce the launch of a U.S. tour in August. The tour will support a new, untitled Stones album, their first full-length release of original material in eight years. Mick Jagger insists the new CD is "eighty-five percent done." The tour kicks off at Fenway Park (hosting its second rock act after Springsteen), and will visit five other major-league fields and a multitude of other venues, including the massive Giants Stadium. Mick Jaggar revealed that the Stones "might dig into the catalog" during the tour. So outside of the standard numbers--"Start Me Up," "Jumpin Jack Flash," "Gimme Shelter," etc.--which songs from the deepest recesses of the Stones catalog should the band "dig into"? Stones fans speak.
"Sympathy for the Devil" with a slow, steady 10-minute instrumental lead in with sax, guitar and drums - I heard a local band pull it off and I swear it was better than the original. So, link up with horn players for it. If not, then make it a duet with Bono or Iggy Pop.
Tumblin' Dice is their best song. Of course, the only album I'm really even partial to is Exile on Main Street, which is great from beginning to end. Not much of a fan otherwise, so I'll just shut up now.
Soldier Field here in Chicago for the Stones.
2000 light years from home, out of time, Hand of Fate, The Citadel ( written by Bill Wyman) and one hit to the body would all make my day.
Out of Time is an excellent choice, Sarge. I heard it play on the opening credits of "Coming Home" last night.
They should open with "2000 man".
will they be wearing diapers and using wheelchairs? man they gettin old!
The Stones were a great band but do they still really need the money?
Nothing sadder than 50 to 60 year olds with their canes, walkers and oxygen tanks in tow trying to hear the music at a rock and roll concert using their Miracle Ears.
I suppose it’s worth the money and trip to be there when Jagger breaks a hip.
Ah...if only we all knew that the quality of a concert wasn't about the bands age, but rather about the band itself, their love for the music, and what they bring to the stage every night. I've seen many concerts of "young" and "old" bands and THE BEST concerts I've ever seen have been by those bands 2-3 times my age.
...As for the Stones, I'll have to make my judgement on Nov. 3rd when I see them in Portland, OR. Pro or Con, age just isn't what it's about...
