John Bonham, 25 Years Gone

Twenty-five years ago today, John Bonham got drunk. Twenty-five years ago tomorrow, John Bonham didn't wake up. Thus ended one of the greatest rock bands. Stop by FlynnFiles on Sunday for a special tribute to Led Zeppelin on the twenty-fifth anniversary of their expiration.

I find your propaganda speech fitting to that of a salesman! You were the guy who wanted any Zepplin song u heard turned off! God knows what have happened if we drank beers at Buckwild woods and listened to The Rain Song or Tangerine, we might have been put on suspention(that don't look right but im boozed) for half a decade!!

The only Zeppelin album I've bought in the last fifteen years is Presence. This is not because I don't like Zeppelin, it's because I owned every other Zeppelin album save Presence (I've never owned Coda and don't consider it a real Zeppelin album). The two songs you mentioned are among my favorite Zeppelin songs. Maybe your complaint is that Zeppelin is like like top five or top ten for me, and not top one.

If I had any complaints about Zeppelin, they would include: 1). Many of their fans don't listen to anything else, and are basically unaware of other great music--even similar classic rock stuff. 2. Unlike the Beatles or the Who, or the Stones, the bands influenced by Zeppelin generally suck. You can't fault Zeppelin for Cinderella, Ratt, and every other hair band that claims them as their prime influence. But you can contrast what came in their wake to what came in the wake of the Who (The Clash, Eddie Vedder, even Green Day), the Stones (Guns n Roses, Black Crowes), or the Beatles (all of rock music). This is not to say that good groups aren't fans of Zeppelin--the Black Crowes I'm sure were thrilled to go on tour with Jimmy Page--but it's just to say that the bands that cite them as their main influence don't amount to much. Alas, it's unfair to blame Zeppelin for some of their fans or most of those influenced by them.

For the longest time I heard the last lyrics as one thing, and then when I saw the actual ones in print got a little shock. I still 'hear' my version whenever the song plays.

Great music for being out walking in a cold, gray rain trying to sort out your thoughts. Hope you're dreaming sweet, J.B.
