'Hoosiers' Tops Sports Movies List

The critics and the people agree: Hoosiers is the best sports movie of the past twenty-five years. I'm glad none of the horrific Rocky sequels made the list, but where was Victory and All the Right Moves? Personally, I'd have placed Raging Bull on top ("You didn't knock me down Ray"). Go back more than twenty-five years and you find a lot of great sports movies--The Bad News Bears, Rocky, and Slap Shot.

King Pin is the best sports movie! Yes, Bowling is a sport.

Good call, Auc. How could I have forgotten Kingpin! Randy Quaid's dream-sequence love scene with Chris Elliot has left a scar on my psyche. Kingpin is the funniest Farrelly brothers movie.

Not to get off topic here, but Stuck On You was a pretty funny Farrelly movie. Kind of a unique and nice story as well.

Or, is it me?

Auc if you didnt move down south you would never say bowling is a sport! I agree it is, however is it still a sport when the people you are bowling with are Moonbeam,Hopper and i dont know...lets say Flynny??????

I haven't seen Stuck on You, Mike. On your advice, I'll check it out.

"For Love of the Game" is actually a really, really good baseball movie. It is far superior to a number of the baseball flicks on that list (Eight Men Out, A League of Their Own, Cobb) and yet it didn't crack the top 25? That is ridiculous.

Nothing for Pride of the Yankees? Dan, your regional bias disgusts me.

"The Champ" should get some consideration. Great movie with an exceptional performance by Jon Voight.

It's a lie - and it's a bad one. The top movie is actually Scanners - suppressed by the Bushies, kept down, thrown out, rolled, racked, diced, polished and thrown into the shitstorm with broken teeth...it hurts, you know? And to think of what...but then it...and...

Great call on 'The Champ'. This wonderful sports movie has been virtually forgotten about.

Correct about the great performance by Jon Voight and a young Ricky Shroder.
