Once upon a time there was a hare who, boasting how he could run faster than anyone else, was forever teasing tortoise for its slowness. Then one day, the irate tortoise answered back: "Who do you think you are? There's no denying you're swift, but even you can be beaten!" The hare squealed with laughter.
"Beaten in a race? By whom? Not you, surely! I bet there's nobody in the world that can win against me, I'm so speedy. Now, why don't you try?"
Annoyed by such bragging, the tortoise accepted the challenge. A course was planned, and the next day at dawn they stood at the starting line. The hare yawned sleepily as the meek tortoise trudged slowly off. When the hare saw how painfully slow his rival was, he decided, half asleep on his feet, to have a quick nap. "Take your time!" he said. "I'll have forty winks and catch up with you in a minute."
The hare woke with a start from a fitful sleep and gazed round, looking for the tortoise. But the creature was only a short distance away, having barely covered a third of the course. Breathing a sigh of relief, the hare decided he might as well have breakfast too, and off he went to munch some cabbages he had noticed in a nearby field. But the heavy meal and the hot sun made his eyelids droop. With a careless glance at the tortoise, now halfway along the course, he decided to have another snooze before flashing past the winning post. And smiling at the thought of the look on the tortoise's face when it saw the hare speed by, he fell fast asleep and was soon snoring happily. The sun started to sink, below the horizon, and the tortoise, who had been plodding towards the winning post since morning, was scarcely a yard from the finish. At that very point, the hare woke with a jolt. He could see the tortoise a speck in the distance and away he dashed. He lept and bounded at a great rate, his tongue lolling, and gasping for breath. Just a little more and he'd be first at the finish. But the hare's last leap was just too late, for the tortoise had beaten him to the winning post. Poor hare! Tired and in disgrace, he slumped down beside the tortoise who was silently smiling at him.
"Slowly does it every time!" he said.
Coakley napped for two months and just might lose. Intrade has it 75 Brown-25 Coakley. Here's hoping the tortoise miraculously wins.
My money is on Coakley. I think this is a media created frenzy. "The end is near! Repent!"
This is nonsense trumped up to motivate the base. Someone bet me -- 20 bucks on the table.
I think Homer is likely correct. In a very "blue" state where most voters are Democrat, the voting apparatus, and the government is all controlled by Democrats it is hard to imagine a scenario where Brown could win but we will see.
"In a very "blue" state where most voters are Democrat"
And don't forget in a state with mostly brain-dead liberal robots.
Coakley is a horrible AG, a horrible candidate and would be a horrible Senator with very little incentive to think or operate outside of the way left agenda.
But, people from Massachusetts are like the frat pledge in Animal House. They will get screwed by their state and the dominant Democrat party apparatus, bend over for another smack on the a$$ and say, "thank you sir, may I have another".
I think I've made it clear I'm a Brown guy, but then again, I'm one Mass. resident who actually pays attention.
That's why Texas or another less liberally crazy locale looks better and better to me all the time.
Anyway - Go Brown!!!
You both might be correct, but do you realize how demoralized the left-wing base is? After voting for reform and being force fed another sandwich of corporate feces, what's the point of a principled leftist going to the polls? To vote for another corporate DEMONcrat? At least Ted Kennedy, despite all his myriad faults, was an aristocrat who at least occasionally challenged the aristocracy.
Who is excited about a Coakley victory? Maybe a few postmodern feminists in Cambridge or a handful of lesbians statewide? On the other hand, how many peasants are excited about the prospect of a Pantload Brown victory? Just about every peon Recraplithug and both of their grandmothers.
Obushma and the Committee To Screw The World may have achieved the impossible: handing Recraplithugs Congress in 2010, despite all of their material and demographic advantages. Good riddance.
Does that mean you're taking my bet?
Homer, if there was an easy way to enforce it I would take your bet. I would hedge that, however, by throwing down 5 bucks on Intrade for Coakley (slimy, I know).
Zogby thinks it will be close, 1 point or less for Coakley. Every other poll is showing a significant Brown advantage, with the exception of the Daily Kos (LMAO) poll showing a tie.
In other words, no Homer, I am not taking your bet.
Jon Stewart on the MA Senate race:
"It's not that the Democrats are playing checkers and the Republicans are playing chess. It's that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are in the nurse's office because once again they glued their balls to their thighs."
LMAO, awesome video here

I think Coakley will edge out Brown. Dont get me wrong, I want Brown to win but, the Libtards in the New England area are so brain dead, all they vote on and see is 'Red vs Blue' and not the content of character. They are like buffalo, if the leader goes off a cliff they all go off a cliff.
As the most excellent Mark Steyn wrote this weekend - Let's see if Massachusetts will follow Obama off the cliff.
That sums it up very nicely.
I know you all will attack the messenger and not the message, but for all those that consistently complain about the mainstream media as being a liberal institution... you should really read the Noam Chomsky's essay "What makes mainstream media mainstream" which can be found here:
http://books.google.com/books?id=KALsz08ijnkC&dq=%22You+are+being+lied+to%22&printsec=frontcover&source=bn&hl=en&ei=cC9WS67oBIfKNYfjtJMJ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=4&ved=0CBgQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=&f=false
You will find that Red and Blue are two sides of the same coin, the media serves not to inform but to distract, and the general population is enslaved not by men but by the institution of media.
fdsa: of course mainstream media is a liberal institution in our culture. That is about as obvious as saying that the Boston Globe roots for the Red Sox and the NY Times roots for the Yankees, even if it also tries to present facts. Now if some pansy soccer fan comes over and starts saying that the New York Times and the Boston Globe are equivalent because neither of them cheer for Manchester United, that is just stupid.
Let me add one more fact: The Times and the Globe will both kiss Chomsky's behind, though he is a left wing nut job, and neither of them will print any right wing nut jobs.
Man, oh man, I really wish I would've put $100 on Coakley. What a payout if that witch wins.
81 Brown-19 Coakley on Intrade.
wow... you really missed the point. You didn't read the essay did you?
fdsa,
Manufacturing Consent is available for viewing on Hulu. Great documentary on the greatest political philosopher and dissident of the 20th century, the legendary "Intellectual Moron" Noam Chomsky.
How're you feeling, Homer?
Well, I lost a bet, but I'll enjoy watching people become unhinged. In fact, it's one of my favorite pastimes....
What an election. I actually thought that Coakley would win because the polls showing a Brown victory would scare every Democrat into voting. I guess I overestimated my least favorite party.
Mr. Brown, I salute you. Let's hope this isn't your only term.
What would be quite interesting (and I'm sure I'm just fantasizing here) is if we see a little more conservatism spilling into Massachusetts politics on various issues, now that we've seen the Kennedy seat go to a Republican. Maybe Massachusetts doesn't have to stay as liberal as its politicians have been for such a long time. Maybe Massachusetts voters will vote for candidates who are more conservative on various issues (immigration, for example) than Kennedy and Kerry.
