The State of the Union

President Obama speaks to a joint session of Congress this evening. If you can't wait that long to hear from Dear Leader, or to see the distinguished government officials gathered to hear Him in the Capitol, I took the trouble of inventing a time machine and retrieving a video of the speech from the future for your inspection in the present. Watch it here for insight into the real state of our union.

That movie really was brilliant.

I watched this movie for the first time the other night on the Comedy Channel. The original concept was intriguing because who among us don’t know smart people who have over thought the childbearing process only to either not spawn or to only have one kid while trailer park goobers are mindlessly are having litter upon litter.

And on and on it goes. The rest of the movie was pretty lame though.

Another Obamanation?

On top of $20.3 million to bring into the U.S. Hamas refugees.

This is everything I wanted our first black president to be. Sadly, Bill Clinton did not live up to my hopes and expectations.

So, it goes something like this:

GW and his merry band of advisors/thieves, take your pick, ask for us give up $700 billion for TARP to bail out irresponsible businesses and financial institutions. But those in Congress decide to lard that up with an additional $150 billion. GW spends half of the TARP allocation ($350 billion) but decides not to spend the other half which, once he’s gone, gets spent anyway by the Dems.

Then the Dems come up with the Democratic Payback and Spending Plan of 2009 to the tune of $789 billion (soon to expand to over a trillion) in the guise of economic “stimulus”.

Meanwhile, the new Pres decides that people (citizens and non-citizens alike) who were too stupid or irresponsible to handle owning a house and maintaining a mortg@ge, need to get their own bailouts to the tune of $75 billion (unclear if additional funding to the tune of hundreds of billions will be needed to keep Fannie & Freddie alive, but likely).

Yesterday the House Democrats unveiled a $410 billion spending bill to keep the government running through the end of the fiscal year, setting up the second political struggle over federal funds in less than a month. Not only that, this spending bill represents an 8% increase over last year's outlays. The Democrats say they were needed to make up for cuts enacted in recent years or proposed a year ago by then-President George W. Bush in health, education, energy and other programs.

Not to forget miscellaneous other billions or hundreds of billions for this, that and the other thing.

Is this what he'll be talking about tonight? My guess is that it will be more pontification about Hope and Change.

Is the charlatan making the speech tonight who is trying to justify putting the United States in debt for the next 100 years legitimate as our President?

He has not produced an original copy of his birth certificate, he has not allowed his academic records from Occidental, Columbia or Harvard to be released. In fact, before his community organizing days for ACORN, we know very little about him.

Except what he's decided to expose in his books about his favorite subject: Barack Hussein Obama.

ASDF,

It sounds as though Obama is getting his economic advice from Dick "deficits don't matter" Cheney. So Obama really isn't the charlatan; he's just trying to imitate one.

Living in the past again are we Eric?

Posted by: asdf on February 25, 2009 09:38 AM

ASDF,

No, just trying to learn from it.

Posted by: Eric Wilds on February 25, 2009 02:07 PM

Well that's good. Because it really $ucked when the stock market was humming at 14,000 and we didn't have to worry as much about getting blown up in a subway.

Yep, life was pretty difficult for the last eight years. Not the Nirvana that it is now.

Posted by: asdf on February 25, 2009 03:23 PM

Yes, strip searches at airports and living on credit cards (and paying off those credit cards with more credit cards) was jolly good fun.

Posted by: Eric F. Langborgh on February 25, 2009 04:16 PM

Well yeah. I suppose it would make much more sense to stay with the old pre 9/11 rules and allow people to walk onto planes with anything they happened to have on their person.

Hate to clue you, but this ain't your Daddy's America.

Posted by: asdf on February 25, 2009 04:53 PM

Really? I was allowed to protect myself with a gun on a plane pre-9/11? How is being forced to hand over tons of mouthwash and body lotion making anyone safer, pray tell?

And yes, our country is much less free now than the one my daddy grew up in.

Posted by: Eric F. Langborgh on February 25, 2009 05:18 PM

ASDF,

The stock market crashed under President Bush and I'm still not worried about getting blown up in a subway.

Posted by: Eric Wilds on February 25, 2009 09:44 PM

Well, it’s really hard to argue with this kind of air tight ‘Eric’ logic but I’ll try.

The 9/11 perps took over planes with box cutters and harsh language. So you think it’s a good idea to go back to allowing people to carry whatever kind of implement of destruction on commercial flights that they choose? Brilliant.

And based on what happened on 9/11 you may take into consideration that we did become a less free country for a reason. But, if you think there is no longer a threat and we should go back to not checking baggage, not searching passengers and everybody being allowed to carry their weapon of choice, then I really hope you’re in the minority.

Stock market crashed under Bush? Yeah, and 9/11 happened under Bush. Neither event had anything directly to do with Bush and more to do with previous and post administrations. True.

But it won’t matter to you gents that the One is running us off of the cliff because some how, some way, no matter what happens, it will be Bush’s doing.

In fact, on top of all of the other plans that have been presented in the last month or so to kill the economy, the stock market and make us much poorer, O’s first budget request will include provisions for another $750 billion in new aid to the financial industry, and an overhaul to the U.S. health-care system and launch a program to cut carbon-dioxide emissions.

But, let’s not forget about Bush even when the new boss is already making the last eight years seem like the good old days.

Posted by: asdf on February 26, 2009 09:39 AM

I rest my case.

Posted by: Eric F. Langborgh on February 26, 2009 11:14 AM

ASDF,

I see. So Clinton is responsible for the 9/11 attacks. But Bush is responsible for the economic growth that occurred during his administration. But then Clinton -- and Obama -- are responsible for the economic catastrophe that occurred toward the end of his administration.

You aren't interested in really learning or understanding any issue. If something goes wrong with the country you just blame the Democrats and if something goes right, you give Bush the credit. This is just crass and ignorant partisanship, but I guess it's easier than thinking.

Posted by: Eric Wilds on February 27, 2009 01:58 PM

Well said, Wilds. That's why I rested my case.
