Howard Dean, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, calls a government health-insurance company "indespensible." It's not reform if it's not in the bill, he believes. Anthony Weiner, grand cyclops of the liberals' rule or ruin caucus, says that the president dropping the "public option" (it's certainly won't be optional for the taxpayers footing the bill) will cost his and a hundred other House votes. Obama's constituency is the United States of America, which is why he has to yield to national public opinion on aspects of his health-care agenda that are unpopular among the populace. Howard Dean has never been responsible to a diverse national constituency. As governor of Vermont and as the 2000 presidential candidate of the Left party's left-wing, Dean has always the courted the droolers and sandwich-board Sandys. Anthony Weiner, a congressman from New York, hardly represents Middle America. And there lies Obama's problem. So many in his party represent safe, left-wing districts. The hard-left stances that play so well on their home turf endanger mainstream Democrats who represent "purple" districts of Democrats and Republicans. The party cannibals on the left are quick to accuse the Blue Dogs and centrists of treason to the party, but it's the Hard Left, safely ensconsed in their deep-blue ghettos, who undermine the party by pushing hard for policies, such as a government-run health insurance company to compete with (and also regulate) the private insurance industry, that not only stand little chance of gaining majority support in Congress, but help to ensure that next time around they won't have majority support in Congress.
2010 = 1994.
I think it may be premature to determine that the Democrats will not have the majority after the next Congressional elections. I think it all hinges on the economy. If the economy shows improvement by the middle of next year, the Democrats coast to victory and may even gain seats. If the economy does not improve, then the Demcorats will face an uphill battle to maintain control.
2010 might be bad for Dems, but wouldn't it have to be bad in an unprecedented way for them to lose control of congess?
Really hate to admit it but I think you’re right. It does not seem to matter to an ill informed reactionary American public with a short attention span that most of the Democrats look down upon them with complete contempt and are working hard to take away their quality of life and have America be just another country on the list after Algeria.
That said, it’s been proven recently and in the past that with this crew in the majority it would come as a surprise if the economy were humming by mid 2010.
B.Poster, while I agree that a Republican gain is by no means a given, the way the Dems have handled this socialized medicine power grab makes the economy, if it's better, irrelevent.
The conservative base is fired up like I've never seen them in my 40+ years, I see the Dems losing big next year.
With that said, it appears now the Dems might have decided to pass it no matter the consequences. That's the only thing that would make their actions make any sense. I predict a partisan vote, just like the stimulus and the Dems will own the entire thing.
I too am getting the impression that the imperial Democrats don't really give a fat rat's azz what the people they purport to represent think or do. In their minds (and especially in the mind of the completely ego driven Fraud in Chief) this destructive bill is the hallmark of of many years of liberal thinking with regard to rationed government health care and the control it enables them to have.
Might be that the Dems already think they're dead with how they've mishandled controlling government and figure it will likely be a blood bath in 2010 and don't care.
Politically, this should be a partisan issue across the board with Republicans staying away from this mess cross in hand.
But for the general public, not only are Conservatives/Republicans up in arms but many Democrats who didn't know what they were getting when they voted for the most left leaning radical person ever to run for and win the Presidency are not happy with Obama's concept of "Change".
It's important that all citizens no matter what political stripe stand up against this pending catastrophe.
Republicans have some very tall demographic hurdles to overcome if they want to recapture congress in 2010. However, things are being mismanaged so badly and the will of the polity being ignored to such an extent by the Obama administration that if an honest, intelligent demagogue were to run they might be able to capture the presidency in 2012. The public voted for change, not George Bush III. I don't see any way that republicans take back congress in the 2010. 17 republican senators are up for re-election and last election the dems captured 257 seats and 59.1% of the nationwide vote versus 178 at 40.9% for republicans.

I think you vastly underestimate the anger of the public, especially the conservative base. When politicians start making fun of and calling the public names there's a serious problem and I think the backlash will be incredible.
I don't know whether Obama will be a one termer,(I can only hope),what I think could sink him and will sink the libs in congress next year is their arrogance and facist policies and beliefs. Trying to silence anyone who doesn't agree with them and pushing through their agenda without giving time for debate or even to read legislation.
I have had nightmares about Barney Frank trying to "eat me." This gives that nightmare a whole new level of terror! Barney the Cannibal! As directed by Rob Zombie....

How dare Howard"the coward"Dean, bring the VA medical system into the deabate! That whimp, was too afraid to fight his Marxist brothers in Vietnam and now he claims brings the VA system,as well as veterans into this "train wreck" of an idea.
Howard "the coward" hasn't sereved, due to his belief in Marixism, but even more importantly his cowardice. Being a veteran, I resent like hell, some little girl, pretending to be a man, bring the veterans(real men) into any conversation, period!
To see a little sissy, like Dean talk about veterans is insulting and pisses me off to no end.
Why doesn't he talk about the Marxist useful idiots, like his brother, who was convinced the media was misleading the US public about the socialist utopia being constucted in southeast Asia, too bad he was killed by his Marxist heros.
BTW,why doesn't the media ask Obama or his Marxist mentors, why communist killed so many people?
Dean should be tarred,feathered,horse-whipped,and run out of the country on a rail for having the gall to mention an organization (which he refused to join) like the VA,which is an organization he knows as much about as Dexter Manley knows about reading.
This guy is pathetic and when in elementary school was the target of school yard bullies.
And I thought you said
