Obama Hurting Obama

More Americans disapprove of Barack Obama's job performance than approve according to a new Rasmussen poll. This is the first time the president's negatives have outweighed his positives. Part of the decline is probably the inevitable result of Obama fatigue. The media has been forcefeeding this guy down our throats for more than a year. Saturation Obama was bound to work against itself eventually. Part of the approval slide is probably due to policy. After irresponsibly spending money the government doesn't have, Obama and the Democratic Congress now want to spend even more money the government doesn't have on an expensive health-insurance entitlement. Like Obama fatigue, in which Obama has been an ironic victim of his own boosters, ObamaCare may become a casualty of Obama's policies. After spending trillions on stimulus, bailouts, wars, and other big-ticket items, Obama wants trillions more for the biggest-ticket item on the menu, national health insurance. Even Democrats question whether we have the money to pay for it. The American people told Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson, and Bill Clinton "no." Barack Obama's declining poll numbers suggests they are telling him the same thing.

Maybe the decline has to do with his national health care plan but with all due respect I think his real problem is the economy. It hasn't gotten any better since he got into office. In fact, it seems it has gotten markedly worse since he entered office.

If the economy gets markedly better in the coming months and within the next year or so the voters may well tell Obama "yes" to nationalized health care. If the economy does not improve, the voters will likely say "no" to Obama and his plan for national health care.

In other words, I really the lower approval numbers are more about the state of economy than the plan for government controlled health care. This is not to say that Obama's health plan is not a factor in these numbers. Its just that I think this is at best a secondary issue with the economy being the driving factor.

You may be right, BPoster. I would be wise to more often remind myself: It's the economy, stupid!

The poll numbers positively skewed to say that the American people are en masse on board with Obama’s plans to control healthcare in this country is misinformation staged by the administration to garner support that really isn’t there. There are other polls (http://www.dakotavoice.com/2009/03/poll-most-americans-satisfied-with-health-care-system/) that point to the fact that most people are fairly happy with their health care and don’t give it a second thought.

As usual, the private market works and public government run health care will be an expensive folly and only a reason to nationalize and control another private industry under the dictate of the Messiah.

We’re in for a long economic slog with this guy in the White House but I don’t believe that an improving economy + graduated presidential poll numbers will soften the public’s view of government run health care rationing.

There might be a more significant factor at work here regarding O’s falling numbers: Obama fatigue.

The ubiquitous Obama might be wearing on people. His constant traveling tour and unending slow baritone teleprompter speeches might be more reason to be growing weary of the guy. And people who before the election refused to study him or his policies are paying slightly more attention and are finding that the One is lacking in substance, experience and honesty as he works to shape the United States in the image of Venezuela.
