Mike Huckabee commuted Maurice Clemons' 35-year sentence for armed robbery in 2000. Clemons is a "person of interest" in the murders of four policemen in a Lakewood, Washington coffee shop. During Huckabee's ten-year tenure as governor of Arkansas, he employed his clemency power more times than the combined number of clemencies issued by the governors of the six states that border Arkansas. After preaching about God for so many years, the Southern Baptist preacher tried to play God in the governor's mansion. Pardons, commutations, stays of execution, and the like can serve as a check on injustice, but to cavalierly overturn the verdicts of hundreds of juries, as Huckabee did in Arkansas, suggests delusions of omniscience.
Yes, but he's a Repbulican, isn't he? How could this be?
Shame on Mike McCa...er, Huckleberry.
All I know is this will go one way or the other: The Dems will use Huckabee as a tool for the 2010 elections or they will blame our "lax" gun laws.
the Huck is done. PALIN 2012!
I am a Christian and am disgusted that Huckabee can't even get his own theology in order. I have read of the many commutations he has foisted upon the public (many are related to his own personal view that the person got the gospel and changed) and there is an undercurrent of exactly what Mr. Flynn mentioned 'a playing of God" by Mr. Huckabee- if one were to read Romans chapter 13 and 14 one would see that God is one who is just. The thing people need to do is ask for forgiveness from their Creator through Christ and then SERVE THEIR TIME! Mr. Huckabee was playing God's role instead of being a priest of the gospel only. Its sad if it weren't so tragic for so many!
Huckleberry is a scam artist. And the fact that he, like many, hide behind religion makes him even worse.
My favorite Huckster story was when he couldn't by the light of day receive gifts as political graft, he decided to re-marry his wife and receive those gifts as wedding presents.
Piece of S.
The calculus Huckabee used to grant clemency is the same calculus being used by many evangelical protestant Christians. Christian doctrine clearly states that one is saved by grace alone, not by works. Therefore, any particular action can be rendered eternally inconsequential by praying to dear Lord Jesus and asking for forgiveness. Adulterous scum like Mark Sanford used it, even going so far as to liken himself to a modern day King David, an adulterer after God's own heart (perhaps murderer too, like David?).
Cheat on your wife? No big deal, just pray to Jesus. Humiliate your children during the course of it? Jesus loves you, it doesn't matter! Remember the story of the criminal on the cross beside Jesus? He only had to state that Jesus was God, and all the criminal acts he committed were rendered irrelevant, and he would be with God in heaven for all eternity. Never mind the contemporary Han Dynasty Chinese living a logical and consistent system of ethics; they didn't turn to Christ and will burn for eternity.
Oh yeah, the whole "they can come to Christ through nature" loophole explains that contradiction.
Huckabee was simply LIVING his beliefs, which although insane does show at least some sincerity. At least he believes something, unlike Obushma.
LOL@ evangelical Christians, at least Catholics pulled purgatory out of thin air to TRY to be consistent about individual actions and their consequences. Thankfully, most evangelical Christians don't really believe what they profess. For them, it's more of an expression of cultural solidarity, not true belief. Huckabee is an exception (along with Sanford, Ensign, Vitter, and on and on we go with conservative minds with liberal genitals).
That was well said. But remember that most religions, in the mind of the perpetrator, will grant a pass for questionable or bad behavior.
At the end of the day, it's not religion - it's people. And usually their interpretation of a particular religion.
That's why many, many psychopaths and sociopaths hide behind religion to give their actions some kind of validity.
Unless, of course, you’re a member of the Religion of Peace. Then you can murder people with impunity and somehow our society tries to understand.
