Republican Senator Judd Gregg once voted to abolish the department of commerce, which makes him eminently qualified to lead the agency (Custer-style) in my book. Unfortunately, now that Barack Obama has plucked the second-generation New Hampshire baby-kisser out of the senate to run the commerce department, born-again Obamaite Gregg is a little too enthusiastic about the disposable department. For his reversal, I rechristen him: Gregg Judd. Judd Gregg, bureaucracy killer, I can deal with. Gregg Judd, bureaucrat, is another person entirely.
There are many things wrong with this appointment.
Senate minus one more 'Republican' vote, the hypocrisy of a guy who wanted to abolish the department he now purports to lead, the gall, the ego, the fact that Gregg has never met a plan to out-source American workers he hasn't liked and will now be in charge of a governmental department one of whose function it is to operate for the United States and indirectly help to protect American workers.
Interesting. If Franken ends up in the Senate, and Lynch appoints a Democrat, the Democrats will have 60 votes in the Senate. That could be a good thing. Let them get all the credit for the catastrophe they're sure to bring about.
