Bush: 'I Chucked Aside My Free-Market Principles'

"I readily concede I chucked aside my free-market principles when I was told...the situation we were facing could be worse than the Great Depression," George W. Bush explained in his final presidential news conference. When was he told the situation might compare to the Great Depression? His first day in office? The truth is that Bush never really had any free-market principles. Remember, the nationalization of airport security, the No Bureaucrat Left Behind education bill, and the prescription-drug giveaway all happened during his first term. It's a myth that Bush jettisoned the free-enterprise (non) system after facing this current economic downturn. Like most confessions, it's intent is more to conceal than to reveal.

The Messiah is finding bi-partisanship hard to swallow but has had to come to grips with the fact that Bush policies might be hard to back away from.

The One seems to be throwing 'Hope' and 'Change' off the bus with the impending reality that current policies on Iraq, Afghanistan, Gitmo, wiretapping potential terrorists and enemy combatants and not sanctioning higher taxes for the rich are better maintained for now.

Must be freaking out his lemming supporters who are watching as their baseless leader really isn't standing for anything but the status quo.

W held his ground on SCHIP however, for some reason.

Ya know, Bill Clinton pardoned everybody but Charlie Manson when he left office. So do you think that Bush could possibly do the right thing and pardon US Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean? Or will he posture to make a case for his favorite illegal underclass?

Either way, there is no excuse for Scooter Libby, a bigger scandal than Watergate that got swept under the rug.

Posted by: horse on January 13, 2009 01:05 PM

Scooter Libby should be pardoned because it was not he who, allegedly, "leaked" info about Plame. You know Plame - the undercover CIA operative who was tied to a desk and whose only claim to clandestined activity was in her own mind.

Keep pretending that you know what happened, and that it wasn't an effort by the admin. to silence valid and true criticisms from her husband against the Iraq war proposal (which we later found out to be true, and that the war was unjust and unfounded). Yet you claim the MSM is 'Democratic', but this story was well covered up. Cheney deserved to be put in jail for this crime, as well as Scooter.

You - Are - Delusional.

"...do the right thing and pardon US Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean"

You mean the men who shot an unarmed man in the back?

You mean that unarmed man that was crossing the border illegally and running drugs?

Yeah, I thought you were talking about that man. That man that shouldn't have been there in the first place.

So, if someone is breaking into your house and placing harmful substances inside - your stance would be to leave them alone??????

He might not have been armed with a 'weapon' in terms of bullets, but believe me - his weapon of choice kills plenty.

Sally,

Our democracy is based on the abidance of laws. One of those says police can't shoot someone unless they pose an imminent threat to the life of someone else. Sorry, but drugs don't pose an imminent threat to life under judicial standing, hence they are still in jail. This is also why that subway cop is being charged with murder.

Posted by: horse on January 15, 2009 02:48 PM

I love the illogical thought process of horsesazz.

"Our democracy is based on the abidance of laws."

So an alien enters our country illegally with an illegal weapon toting 800 pounds of illegal drugs for illegal sales illegally threatens border cops and illegally flees when attempts are made to restrain him, and you're talking about our democracy being based on laws that need to be obeyed?

What a chump.

Posted by: asdf on January 15, 2009 04:09 PM

you are ignoring the basic argument... the reason they are in jail.

Posted by: horse on January 16, 2009 02:07 PM

Ok horsesazz, I'll play a bit more.

They didn’t know until two weeks later that Davila had even been hit. Compean fire shots that did not hit Davila but Ramos heard the shots, ran toward his partner who was on the ground bleeding (from an attack by Davila) and he shot at a fleeing Davila after he turned and flashed what Ramos thought was a gun. The perp continued to run and then proceeded to jump into a waiting get away car.

An illegal drug dealer breaks into our country and a couple of duly sworn law officers charged with protecting us shoot at him in self defense and have no idea that he is even hit because he was illegally fleeing from a scene where he was performing illegal activities.

So, what about these facts do you not understand?

It’s real easy for people who think they know, to second guess. Like people sitting warm and comfortable in this country making judgments about how soldiers handle things in the heat of battle. The same applies to two officials who thought themselves in danger.

I suppose I should expect that an obtuse lefty would defend an illegal scumbag drug smuggler.

Posted by: asdf on January 16, 2009 04:02 PM

Ha, you're funny, I wasn't defending a drug smuggler... I was defending the viability of the law. If someone stole your tv and was running down the street, the cops can't shoot him unless he poses a violent threat. It is the same in this case, and the subway case.
