Blagojevich's Accomplices

Barack Obama could have distanced himself from Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich when evidence of his corruption came to light during his first term, but he endorsed him for a second term instead. Illinois Democrats could have impeached Blagojevich after the revelations of his auction of a U.S. senate seat, but they didn't. Illinois Democrats could have changed state law to allow for a special election to fill the senate vacancy left by Barack Obama, but that would have left matters to the voters rather than the corrupt Democrat governor so they didn't. Senate Democrats could have refused to seat Blagojevich's tainted pick, Roland Burris, but, apparently, they won't.

So you don’t think that after four years of this foolishness (having not even officially started yet), the current President and previous members of Congress won’t look like super stars?

These leftist maroons will end up making GW look like Thomas Jefferson.

Stupid is as stupid does.

"Illinois Democrats could have impeached Blagojevich after the revelations of his auction of a U.S. senate seat, but they didn't"

So it's guilty before proven innocent. That's like shoot first and ask questions later. Whatever works for you all. I prefer to let Fitzgerald do his job first.

"Senate Democrats could have refused to seat Blagojevich's tainted pick, Roland Burris, but, apparently, they won't."

That's not how the law is written. They can only deny based on his lack of qualifications (e.g. age, residency, citizenship, state seal)

Horse is correct (ta da!) on his second point, but confused on his first. As a Constitutionalist, I must agree with him that the U.S. Senate does not have authority to deny someone appointed to the Senate. Any fix had to come beforehand from the state itself.

Where Horse is mistaken is in thinking impeachment presumes guilt. Rather, it is the trial that determines it. Once someone is impeached, then another step is required to remove an elected individual from office.

Eric,

Does the Illinois government have any evidence to charge him with? From what I understand, there are a total of 3 min. out of 300 hours of wire taps that have been declassified (according to Faux news). That doesn't seem like a fair trial to charge someone with evidence that even the prosecuting body does not have access to, let alone the defendant.

I was speaking to the 'revelations of his auction of a U.S. senate seat' that, in actuality, have not been revealed. That is guilty before proven innocent. There is one body with the evidence which refuses to declassify it. On top of that they now say they need more time to prepare for indictments. What ever happened to the slam dunk revelations? They never existed, and Flynn was getting ahead of himself.

I'll take your non-response and posting on other threads to be a no.

Horse,
Wasn't Obama Himself one of the first to call for blogo's resignation? Mistake... or political manuevering?
Whatever the case, Obama the lawyer presumably knows corruption when he sees it.
Tell us why He was wrong.

I think it was a mistake and political manuevering to try and distance himself from a potential political hand grenade. It was presumptuous and prejudiced. Thumbs down on that one. If it comes out that Fitzgerald is right, take things from there. Justice is a two way street.

I take it that comment (January 8, 2009 02:11 PM) is directed at me, Horse. In actuality, my non-response is due to the fact that I really don't give a darn, have not been following this issue much because I don't give a darn, and because I don't give a darn enough to do the research necessary to give an informed enough answer.

Plus, it is due to the fact that I have much better and important things to do with my time than argue with you.

I have no problem that he has been impeached. I always thought impeachment meant guilty until Clinton was impeached and then survived (that was back in my non-paying attention days).

I also have no problems with Blago - AT ALL. I see his actions as being born from Obama. Ignore and keep going. Nothing sticks to Obama, so Blago is trying on the same suit...so far, seems like it is fitting him well.

I think Fitzgerald pulled the plug too early in order to keep Obama from digging his own grave - thus giving Blago a free pass. I could be wrong - only time will tell.
