Additional Taxes for Government = Less Money in the Economy

Everywhere one looks, elected officials are devising imaginative ways to raise taxes. Sodas, video games, beer, and strippers are a few of the targets. Here in Massachusetts, after already hiking the cigarette tax by a dollar, they are proposing raises in the sales tax, in highway tolls, and in the gasoline tax, which would make ours the highest in the nation. There is something, to borrow the words of part-time poet Abraham Lincoln, completely bassackwards about this. We are in a recession. In the past, politicians tried to find ways to inject money into the economy to boost it. Whatever downsides there are to this, there's at least some logic behind it. The push--in the states, at the federal level, overseas--to extract money from the private economy is so incredibly short sighted. It demonstrates that politicians prefer going deeper into recession than to cut the money available to them to spend. The last thing the economy needs is to subtract even more money from it. But that's exactly what the myriad tax increases do. Politicians blame factory closings on corporations. But the fact is that there are reasons beyond the control of the capitalists for the demise of such industries. One reason is the siphoning off of even more money from the private economy through taxes.

Even though the WTC was bombed 2 years prior, and even with the resulting arrested parties indicating massive future attacks planned, the response of the Federal Government after the OK City bombing was...? To raise security at THEIR OWN facilities. Legislation was passed almost immediately to classify FEDERAL buildings into 5 levels of security, and Clinton closed Penn. Ave. in DC and hunkered down behind concrete barricades like the coward he was.

And what did we get?

The Fed only cares about itself. Anytime you hear about "increased security" or whatever, it's almost always about them, not us. Even the airport security is just the Fed putting on an act so as to appear to be doing something.

It's the same with our money. After all, the GOVERNMENT has to keep running...what on earth would we do without THEM?

We should be emulating Texas and look to taking back our autonomy from these people wherever possible.

Along these lines, I don’t think it was coincidence that unemployment rose and the economy sank like a stone when it was fairly certain that Obama would become the President. And nothing has changed since.

Businesses were scared and started to retract and hunker down for the economic slog that was sure to follow the election of the most left wing socialist minded candidate to reach high office in our time.

To the extent that he was another big government President, Bush didn’t put the fear of the Lord into American business. EVERYTHING Obama has done and will continue to do seems to work to crush economic health with regulation, taxation and the fear that his government some how, some way will become partial or full owner of their concerns. You can add Obama’s penchant for class warfare to this.

Further adding to the fear factor for business will be the administration’s folly with Cap and Trade, National Health Care and general lack of leadership when it comes to National Security issues.

Ultimately, destabilizing, demonizing and penalizing the producers doesn’t help the producers or the government. This seems to be lost on King Barack.

Amen to Texas Homer.

Nothing like an engaged government working diligently doing the business of the people. Definately worth the dough.

Homer, I just got a chance to watch those videos. I’m not sure how some people have forgotten, but they have. Or maybe they don’t care anymore? But IT WILL happen again and, in my opinion, it is more likely to happen since 11/5/08 than it might have for a short period before that. Now, our government whose only real purpose is to protect its citizens and the sovereignty of this nation, is more concerned with pulling the lapels of suspected perps or accomplices, caterpillars, getting them wet or having any harsh language directed at them.
