Obama: I Spent Two Years At a Muslim School. Newsweek: It's a Lie

Why does Newsweek continue to peddle the fiction that Barack Obama didn't go to a Muslim school when Obama's autobiography insists that he did? First Jonathan Darman ridiculed the "39 percent [who] believe he attended an Islamic school as a child growing up in Indonesia." Now Jonathan Alter writes: "His stepfather sent him to a Muslim school. False. When Obama lived in Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim country, his mother and stepfather sent him for a time to a Catholic school, and for a time to an Indonesian public elementary school, where he had a class in Islamic studies (as required by the state)." There is certainly malicious gossip and false rumours trailing Obama. But this doesn't mean everything said about him that is potentially damaging to his campaign--and I'm not sure attending an Islamic school while living in an Islamic country is particularly damaging--is false. Alas, for the ideologue everything that is damaging becomes false. My advice to Newsweek? Do what I did. Walk into a Borders, pay $30 for a copy of Obama's autobiography, and then read it. On page 154 you will find the source of the "rumour" that Obama attended an Islamic school: "In Indonesia, I had spent two years at a Muslim school, two years at a Catholic school. In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell my mother that I made faces during Koranic studies."

What's wrong with attending a Muslim school?

Does the writer HATE Muslims? Is he AFRAID of someone being labelled as having an affiliation with Muslims?

I, for one, am insulted.

I agree. He did a couple of his formative years attending a Muslim school. And with his familial background, that makes sense.

What should be more concerning is that (although beyond his control) he spent his first 18 years on the planet living outside of the continental United States.

So it doesn't seem to be any wonder why he demonstrates not to have such a strong bond to the American way.

I echoed your first question, Homer. Plus this: We all start somewhere. Having gone to a Muslim grade school is not a shame, but a fact.

I'm just sure that he's going to load the courts with more oligarchs, so he's not getting my vote. That's all there is to it. That, and he wants to play footsies with the terrorists.

It just goes to show you how afraid the left-minded-challenged are that any connection to the muslim world Obama has might tarnish his messianic image. The man has nothing to offer more beyond his image, so that must be protected at all costs. Even if it means contridicting the candidates own words. The elite jounalist cast think that the general population of middle American see or here the word muslim and the run for a bomb shelter or cling to their bible and grab their shot gun. The far left is so out of touch with where America really is that we couldn't care less if he went ot a muslim based school. We care that he changes his mind practically from moment to monent based on what the polls say. He seems to be a man of seeveral minds. I guess he just says what that particular hadle wispers into his ear prior to his ear before tasking the podium or what speechwriter was given which set of instructions by what advisor. the man has no original ideas. So, Newsweek's story denying he went to a muslim school is just a story and a waste of paper that killed way too many trees!!!!
