Charismatic leader? Check. Unbalanced audience swayed by emotion and not reason? Check. Sea of flags? Check. Overflowing stadium? Check. If you are the type of person easily dazzled by fireworks, then Barack Obama's acceptance speech probably impressed. But if your interests in a president lie in more substantial fare, then the Nuremberg-style rally at Invesco Field didn't do anything to win your vote. "I'd love to find something to criticize there," a sycophantic Keith Olbermann reacted, asking MSNBC sidekick Chris Matthews if he saw anything wrong with the speech. "No," Matthews answered. He could not find anything to criticize, either. Don't fret, I found a few flaws. To cite one, Barack Obama's promise to wean us off foreign oil in ten years is what Paul Tsongas used to call playing Santa Claus. No president has the power to make such an amazing transformation, and anyone who weilded such power would not be called president but dictator. Particularly disturbing is that, juxtaposed with myriad specific programs--such as universal health care--that Obama seeks to institute, he could not name a single program that he would abolish. He lamely promised, instead, to "go through the federal budget, line by line, eliminating programs that no longer work." A man whose brother lives in a box in Nairobi announced, "I am my brother's keeper." His example shows the difficulty in being keeper to one's real brother. Yet, Obama would have the rest of us act as keepers to millions of people whom we don't even know. Great speeches, like the one whose 45th anniversary America commemorated yesterday, last through the ages. The "greatness" of Barack Obama's speech, stripped of the Roman columns and Roman candles, couldn't even survive a simple read.
Dan, I thought that was a fabulous point about Obama wanting to take care of us all when his brother lives in a hut. Brilliant.
I have a friend who is an Obama cultist, and after this thing was over he couldn't stop raving about how amazing it was. My jaw was on the floor, I couldn't believe that anybody thought that that speech was worth the time it took to listen to it.
I thought the speech was incredible. Not the content of the ideas, mind you - which I find atrocious and extremely dangerous. But the delivery made for one of the greatest speeches I've heard in a long, long time. If only conservatives found a package for their ideas that was this well-polished and attractive. But, alas, we haven't had that since Reagan. And I must say that, at least when it comes to speeches, Reagan has been one-uped.
Obama is a phenomenal orator, and the perfect messianic priest of the state-cult. America's growing idolatry got a huge shot in the arm last night.
What? You didn't like the parade of victim class speakers and hearing the Obamanation referred to as Lincoln?
The only thing that Obama has demonstrated is that he is ready to campaign against John McCain. Period. For his moonbat followers, that seems to be enough.
Buchanan's article today is fantastic - and scary in the ramifications he rightly perceives of Obama's messianic campaign: "What if Obama Loses?"
Well educated? Check. Aware of America's problems? Check. Sick of stupid politics that get us no where? Check.
I cannot wait to vote for this man! Because he does have charisma, PLENTY of reason, and when he speaks I get chills from the "fireworks" of his speech.
It’s funny how the Obots refuse to study their candidate and how they continue to take Obama at face value because he can deliver a great speech. As long as it’s prepared and he can read it off of a teleprompter.
Everything about this guy is a question mark: his scholarship; his political history; his accomplishments; his personal associations; his birth, etc. You name it.
But, he sure can read and speak!
And it’s been entertaining to see all of the over the top America Love the campaign is now displaying (Barack Hussein and Michelle really, really, REALLY love this country!!) . And the MLK inflection in the Messiah’s voice when he quotes scripture (not the Black Liberation kind he learned from the Rev. Wright mind you) is priceless.
All I can say is that there’s a sucker born every minute.
How obtuse can this guy be when he keeps quoting his, supposedly, favorite passage from scripture about taking care of your brother when his brother lives in a box?
The selling of fools gold was on full display,Thursday night, by a man who claims he can make socialism work, because "he is for change you can believe in and real change".
Obama has been a lifelong socialist, however, instead of having the courage to call himself a true believer,he refers to himself as a "progressive". If Obama, who is nothing but an empty suit, completely void of substance, doesn't have the courage to call himself, what he really is, a lifelong, true believer in the dreams of Lenin,Marx,Engles,Trotsky, and the other fools, with heads filled full of childish fantasies, how can he ever find the courage the face down the Islamic barbarians in Iran, communist dictators in North Korea and Venezula, or the ex-KGB thugs in Russia?
Obama is the classic example of do what I say,not what I do. He believes in the public schools so much, he sends his daughters to private schools. Obama, like most left wing politicians care more about teachers unions than children.
Obama, much like Ted Kennedy, knows as much about public schools, as Dexter Manley knows about reading.
I feel sorry for the empty-headed fools who have bought into Obama child-like fantasies, especially the fact that only he can make socialism work or he can appease Islamic barbarians and talk them into liking the USA.
If any sane individual believes that, I suppose they also received a wedding invitation to the impending marriage of the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy.
Fools gold for fools.
Obama claims to be a Christian, yet he has voted in favor of the most brutal, heartless forms of abortion- then he has the stones to lecture us on how we treat "the least of these". Unbelieveable.
Obama is not a Christian. You can't believe in letting a live birthed baby die alone on a table unattended just to prove a point and you can't sign on Black Liberation Theology and be a Christian.
He won't cut the crap because he doesn't believe there's any crap to cut. And for those brain dead masses that follow him, what can you say?
