The House of Representatives has lived up to its name. With all 435 seats up for a vote in a few weeks, the House voted down the wildly unpopular $700 billion bank robbery in reverse. Republicans voted against the enormous corporate welfare bill by 2-1 margins, while their Democratic counterparts overwhelmingly favored it. The Democratic Party, if you haven't noticed, is not the party of the working man but the party of big government. Friends of liberty can celebrate today--but not too much. Like Jason, Freddy, and so many other monsters, the bill will likely return from the grave soon.

The vote was heroic and it is really sad that our Republic has devolved so much that the democracy of the House is our only chance at good legislative action. We stand no chance with the "deliberative" body of the upper chamber.

In many ways, you’ve got to love this country. Even though we live in a representative republic and not a true democracy and even though we oft times don’t think so many of our reps ‘get it’ sometimes they surprise. Whether they’re using one or all components of intelligence, common sense or concerns about being re-elected, the people have spoken through government and this stinker of a bill has been rendered dead. At least for now.

I was reading an an@lysis on how they came up with the $700 billion figure. The essence of a quote from a Treasury Department official was that they were shooting for some really big number as they had no idea how much they’d really need for a bail out.

So, throw a dart at some numbers, push it through in three days and damn the taxpayers.

Is this any way to run an airline?

Someone should put a stop to all of this.

Plastic faced, air heads,like Pelosi and general air heads like Obama, continue their attempts to shove a western europe style of socialism (even though it has been a miserable failure,by any measure,over the past 50 years) and thank god the USA still have some representatives in Washington with the common sense to pass on the same type of legislation that has turned western european countries into 3rd rate economic powers and contributed greatly to the total irrelevance, in all but the weak minds of the American left, in world affairs.
France, Germany, and other countries that represent the modern day democratic party values, have been miserable failures in enforcing UN security resolutions, why do you think we are in Iraq? It was left to the US and England to enforce the 17 UN security resolutions Iraq had breached. France nor the other members of the security council had the will or capability to do a mans job.

Thank god socialism, the dream and goal of Obama,Kennedy,Pelosi,Boxer,Frank,and the other assorted brain dead losers, was once again rejected.

When the democrats use western european socialism as shining examples of what the USA should adopt, they always leave out a few minor details, such as 1-2% annual economic growth, double digit unemployement. The left wing losers in the democrat party who took control in 1968, realize socialism has never been successful,however, they lack the courage to state their ultimate goal, a larger government that wields even more power over individuals lives.

Then you have Obama who was mentored, at a young age by a true believer in Stalin,Marx,Engles,Trotsky,and Lenin, add that in to his propensity to associate with every Marxist,socialist,or general left wing US hater misfits and you have what a pitiful excuse of a party the democrats have become, the party that once stood tall and brave in the face of communism and had the best interest of the middle America,has become adopted the dishonorable acts of appeasement and representing ultra rich socialists "wanna bes" like Soros, the Daily kos or kooks, and other assorted left wing nuts and utopians.

Barack Obama made no secret of his infatuation of realizing the dreams of Lenin,Marx,and Trotsky, when he spoke in a church during the democratic primaries, he asked this one tell tale question, "Why can't we create a heaven on earth?'
Well, Mr. Obama this was tried, in a forceful manner and over 100 million people were killed all in the name of social justice or creating a heaven on earth.

Why don't all the miserable misfits like Obama,Billy Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn,Angela Davis, the entire NY Times editorial staff, move to what they speak of as a paradise on earth, North Korea or Cuba would be an excellent place. I feel certain others like myself would even make a donation to see that actually occur.

It would be humurous to see all those limp wristed feminine editorial writers, along with Michael Moore reloacate to North Korea or Cuba.
They all talk the talk but when it comes time to walking the walk, they are uanable to crawl,much less walk. I would love to supply the wheelchair for all those rich hypocrits.

P.S. Pelosi,Obama,Harry Reid,Dennis Kucinich,McDermott,Boxer,kerry,Kennedy,Barbara Lee, Coward Dean, etc,, should have WEAK tatooed across their forehead's,because everytime they talk about "real" national security, it means nothing more than outright appeasement and it also perpetuates the myth among,the Islamic terrorist of the weak Americans. Everytime the above mentioned as well as other left wing nuts, they do nothing but encourage attacks on USA interest.

What a pitiful group of individuals and thank god their socialist fantasy was rejected today.

I think it was Linus van Pelt who said that liberty, like security, has to be won and rewon many times. Not the best source of political wisdom, I admit, but whatever.

In any event, let's be glad that we've had this victory. Vigilance need not preclude our taking some time to celebrate the occasional good news.

For the next fight, what's really important is making sure that the opponents of the bill won't be blamed for the economic tsunami we're going to face. We'd face that tsunami anyway, bailout or no bailout. We have to do what we can to stop public opinion from turning in favor of the policy that just went down to a richly deserved defeat.
