The predictable postmortem from liberals from last week's election is that social conservatism is dead. This speaks more about liberalism's obsessions than with the actual election. It's wish, not analysis. Gay marriage, which, along with unlimited abortion, serves as the political raison d'etre for so many liberals, went down to defeat in ballot questions in Arizona, Florida, and California--states comprising almost twenty percent of the American population. California isn't exactly a red state, and Arizona is about as close to the Bible Belt as my socks are to my belt. It makes me chuckle whenever I hear commentators describe gay marriage as "divisive." Rather than divide Americans, gay marriage unites voters in opposition to it whenever it has been placed on the ballot--Michigan, Oregon, Missouri, etc. This is why Massachusetts leftists blocked the people from voting on the matter and why California judges made the people vote a second time on gay marriage. It would be nice to hear an election postmortem that declares gay marriage dead. It should be after losing in every state where it has appeared on the ballot. But such a eulogy ignorantly presumes the people, and not the people in black robes, rule.
since your on the gay subject, BO looks gay. i dont think that the kids are his. they look alot like revie right!
I keep hearing that the U.S. is still a majority conservative nation. I’d like to believe that’s true and the overwhelming rejection of gay marriage amendments across this land is a great example that traditional values are still important in this country.
So, whahappened where a leftist radical like O could win a sizable portion of the popular vote? Where were all the voters with conservative values?
Um... just take the government out of marriage. Problem solved.
asdf,
I believe after 8 years with an unpopular republican president (unpopular war, scary economy, and unrelenting Democrat attacks) the country wanted change. The voters want the war over and the economy fixed, and they think republicans are to blame for where we are now because Bush presided. This will not be the case in 4 years. I do think the country is still center right, but only the future will really tell us.
You're right on Webster. I kinda knew the answer. That would explain why many hard working educated middle class taxpayers with families voted for the leftist fraud from Illinois.
ASDF,
The answer is also that the two-party system we have here is a sham. So "republican" (i.e. in this case conservative) voter turnout was low b/c the two parties made sure these voters had no options and dem turnout was solid to increased. Both parties are ruled by a neocon/lib ideology that is the "mainstream" political opinion of our ruling class. Voting for either big party nationally makes no serious difference in policy either.
For the most part I'd agree with you and that your theory is sound. But I don't think we can discount the fact that many who are not liberal or democrat voted for The One as protest against the current regime or in lieu of not having a strong horse in the race.
The really unfortunate consequence of all of this is that they didn't only propel, what they might have thought was, a moderate or even left of center Democrat into the White House and for whatever reasons didn't do the necessary home work to understand the impact of their actions.
I do understand that for many true Conservatives, this is somewhat a moment of triumph and an opportunity now or further down the road to say "I told you so". A chance to potentially wake the base in order to come up with a more acceptable choice next time around.
I just hope we're not so far gone by that time where the leftists have a lock on our country. So much so, that Conservatism will never be able to make a come back. Or worse, that there will be anything left for Conservatism to come back to.
There are many colors in the homo rainbow. Don't be afraid to let your colors SHINE.
That's one backlash from having huge black-voter turn out; they don't believe in gay marriage.
ADB, I started writing a long response to your post. But, let’s just say that I agree with what you wrote that was summed up in a sentence. To go further, I would say that there are some among us who try hard to act politically correct. And there are others who culturally know who they are and who have no interest in going there.
I’ve said before that political correctness will kill the golden goose that is (was?) America. It is those who reject that behavior and blatantly confront reality who will survive.
Like him or hate him, the Obamanation was in your face as to who he was and what his agenda entailed. Ultimately, it was very Reaganesque. And his supporters were focused in their quest to see him elevated.
On the other side, I have to laugh at the “Maverick”. He kisses the behind of Ted Kennedy and the Democrats. Panders to La Raza and other immigrant groups and they kick his a$$ by charging against him in the election.
Andrew: Let's take the government out of the incom tax first, and then take it out of marriage.
As someone asked on another website.......when are the people protesting making gay marriage illegal in California going to start protesting the black churches like they are protesting the mormons and white churches, as the black vote was significant in the proposition being passed.

Opus,
Although it would be more warranted and they would be directing their ire at a voter block that had the most impact on their losing, they won't.
Two reasons:
1. It wouldn't make as good of a press story as most 'jounalists' would want to stay away from anything but a kumbaya moment between two big Democratic identity groups.
2. They'll stick to the white churches as they know that toughness and standing up for oneself has been civilized out of the Caucasians who are more interested in being passive and politically correct than to defend their principles.
Interesting observation tagm. There were some Internet reports and a fellow who supposedly had some first hand experience who made the same claims about BHO.
Couple of things here: he was mentored in Hawaii by a Frank Marshall Davis who happened not only to be an ardent communist but who was also a pedophile. And he also lived as child in Indonesia where that kind of activity is acceptable and somewhat a way of life.
Doesn’t matter at this point I guess, but this guy came in with way too many questions about his past and his character.
"Interesting observation tagm."
It's homophobic and borderline racist. Congratulations, you are a bigot.
All but knowing specifically if Obama was a participant in that activity has been documented and is true.
The very fact that it's even out there at all implicating the guy who will run the free world is concerning.
And, as usual, you see racism in your soup.
